Description

April 21, 1931- w. HOFFMANN 1,302,016
PHI CE MARKER CLIP Filed Oct. 22, 1927 Patented Apr. 21, 1931 UNITED STATES WILLIBALD HOFFMANN, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN PRICE-MARKER omr 7 Application filed October 22, 197. Seria1 n01. 228.002.
This invention relates to price marker cli s.
lit the present time, it is the usual practice for grocers and wholesalers to place tags 5 on the shelves above the stock indicating the price of the particular articles thereunder. As the stock is used up and is positioned at other places on the shelves, new tags have to be made and the old ones removed, with consequent mutilation of the shelves. There is also considerable confusion caused by this practice of marking theprice on the shelves above or below the goods.
This invention is designed to overcome the defects noted above and objects of such invention are to provide a novel form of price marker clip in which the clip is so constructed that it directly engages the container and does not have to be positioned upon the shelves, but which as stated directly engages the container itself so that no uncertainty as to the goods indicated, is produced and also so that as the goods are used up the tags are removed and replaced upon the new goods without in any way damaging the shelves.
Further objects of this invention are to provide novel forms of price marker clips which may be very cheaply formed, which may be easily applied, and which are of simple construction. 7
Embodiments of the invention are shown in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure l is a view of amarker in position upon a container;
Figure 2 is a sectional view through the container showing the manner in which the marker engages the container; Figure 3 is a plan view of the structure shown in Figure 1;
Figure 4- is a view corresponding to Figure 2 showing a modified form of marker.
Referring to Figures 1, 2, and 3, it will be seen that the marker holding clip comprises a U-shaped member formed preferably of wire. It has a horizontal front portion 2 which joins at its ends a pair of vertical members 3. The vertical members 3 are looped upwardly at their bottom portions to provide the hook-like portions for thereception of the marker tag 5. The upper ends of the arms 3 are downwardlybent to provide short lips or tongues 6 which hook over the beaded flange 7 of the metal or other type of container 8. It is also to be noted particularly from Figure 3 that the horizontal portion 2 is curved inwardly. This inward curving of the horizontal portion 2 causes the horizontal portion to bite or bear against the center of the price tag and thus cause the price tag to bind against the vertical arms 3. This horizontal portion is roughened 0r knurled on its inner side, as indicated at 2 in Figure 3.
This 'marker holding clip, as described above, is particularly adapted for metal cont ainers which are provided with beaded upper edges. However, for paper containers having fiat tops another type of marker may be used.
Referring to Figure 4, it will be seen that a paper container 9-has been illustrated as provided with a flat top 10. The marker holding clip is similar to that previously described in that it has the vertical arms 11, the looped bottom portions 12, and the horizontal portion 13. However, the marker is provided with a rearwardly bent top portion 14: and with a downwardly extending pointed prong 15. In using this form of marker the prongs 15 are stuck or pressed downwardly through the paper top 10 to firmly position the marker holding clip. The price tag is slipped into place as previously described.
It will be seen that very simple forms of marker holding clips or price tag clips have been provided by this invention which may be cheaply made and which also may be very readily applied with the assurance that they will remain securely in place.
Although the invention has been described in considerable detail, such description is intended as illustrative rather than limiting as the invention may be variously embodied and as the scope of such invention is to be determined as claimed.
I claim:
A clip of the character described comprising a single strand of wire bent to form a horizontal front portion, a pair of vertical members joined to the ends of the front portion, said vertical members oeing looped upwardly at their bottom portions to provlde hook-like portions, the upper ends of said vertical portions being bent downwardly in spaced relation to the body parts of said vertical portions to provide short lips lying parallel with the said vertical portlons, and said horizontal front portion being bent inwardly toward the vertical portions to bite against a price tag supported by the loo ed lower ends of the vertical portions.
11 testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee, 15 in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin.
WILLIBALD HOFFMANN.
