Description

Feb. 28, 1933. FELSENTH'AL 1,899,753
MONEY CLIP Filed NOV. 28, 1931 {figNVENTER Z Patented Feb. 28, 1933 UNITED STATES GUSTAV FELSENTHAL, YoRK, Y'.
MONEY, one;
Application filed November 28, 19a. Serial No. 577,780. I
The object of my invention is to produce a money clip which will hold paper mone or bills in a triple folded condition.
Another object of my invention is toproduce a money clip which will hold paper money or bills in such a manner to allow the top bill to be removed without disturblng the remaining folded bills.
A further object of my invention is to proparts which will be exemplified in the fol lowing specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing.-
The disclosure made the basis of exemplifying the present inventive concept suggests a practical embodiment thereof, but the invention is not to be restricted to the exact .details of this disclosure, and the lattertherefore is to be understood from an illustrative, rather than a restrictive standpoint.
The invention'will first be described in connection with the drawing, wherein similar reference characters are used to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and more specifically defined and indicated in the appended claim.
Attention is directed to the drawing in which-- Fig. 1 is a front elevation of my improved money clip;
Fig. 2 is a rear view of same;
Fig. 3 is a side view of same;
Fig. 411s a top or end view of my clip illustrating how the bills arefolded and held in position, and it also illustrates in dot and dash lines how a bill is removed;
Fig. 5 is an enlarged view of the top portion of my clip and illustrates a modified form of the bill gripping tongue illustrated in Fig. 2, and
50. Fig. 6 is a sectional view taken on the line bent upward against it.
' mainderofthestack without disturbing the 6+6 of Fig. 5 and looking in the direction ofthe arrows. 4 i The reference numeral Irepresents the body portion of my money clip and 2 islone of the bill gripping tongues which is integral with the bottom of the body portion at 3 and This bend 3 is. large enough, to receivethe thickness .of a quantity of bills; ,(See Fig. 3); Integral I with the top of the body. 1 is the smaller bill Q gripping tongue 4 which is bentdownward againstthe b-odyoat' 5'. This bendis also large enough tovreceive a large quantity of bills.
Both of these bends 3 and 5 give aspring action to their respective gripping tongues.
To insert thebills'as illustrated Fig. 4, they arefirststackedand then they are pushed under the gripping tongue 2, the tongue, gripping them approximately in the center of their length." With the bills held inthis mann'er,-their ends are then folded backward andtheir upper ends pushed-lin der the-gripping tongue 4; As'shown in Fig. 4, the right hand ends of the stacked bills were first foldedv backward and pushed under the tongue,- and then the left hand ends were foldedbackward upon the right hand ends and alsopushed under the tongue). This gives the bills a triple fold and they are neatly and securely held in position by the spring pressure of tongues uponv them in two places.
Toremove a .bill from the folded stack, theend of the outer bill is stripped from under the tongue 4 and. pulled outward as shownin dot and dash lines in'Fig; 4. With the bill in this position, it is then pulledl straight outward; stripping it off the rbill next to it. 995
Referring. to Figs. 5 and 6 illustrating the modified form of grippingftongue, it will be seen that'the tongue 4a is hinged at5a on a pintle pin 6 carriedinthe bearings5'b integralwith the body 1a. Mountedupon' the pintle pin and located betweenthehinge extensions 56; of the. tongue is the coil spring 7. One end'l'a of the springsrests' -against"' the face ofEthebody 1a which is .most'cle'arily shownin Fig. GJanditsotherT end bears against the outer surface of, the tongue. tionally hold the middle part of the bills in \Vith the spring held in this manner it acts position, the shorter one adapted to engage to force the end of the tongue against the the folded over edges of the bills.
This specification signed this 27th'day of This type of tongue would only replace the November, 1931. 70
surface of the body portion 1a as illustrated.
top tongue 4 (Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4) although its construction could be utilized in connection with tongue 2 also. The purpose of this type of hinged tongue is to facilitate the folding over and gripping of the ends of the bills, it being easily understood from the drawing that the tongue 40 can be swung upward past the plane of the body 1a and held in this position until the ends of the bills are folded over and then released. The action of the coil spring -7"wi11 swing it downward into Contact with the ends of the bills and hold them in position.
While in Fig. 4. I have illustrated in dotted lines that the bills are being'withdrawn from the left side, it is to be understood that the moneymay be drawn from either side, right or left. This is accomplished simply by having the bills inserted in such a manner that the fold on the right side will be on the top. In this way the bills will be removed in thereverse direction from that shown'in' Fig. 4-. y
V I also wish it understood that while I have shown and described my money clip as beingmade of a piece of spring metal, it may also be constructed of any other material which will accomplish the purposes herein de-v scribed and also that it may be madeof a strip of wire bent into the proper formation so as to have a body portion 1, a large grippingmember 2, and a small tongue 4'.
In accordance with the provisions of the patent statute, I have described my invention, butI desire it understood that it is not confined to the particular form shown and described, the same being merely illustrative, and that the invention can be carried is obvious that the particular embodiments out in other ways without departing from the spirit of my invention, and therefore, I I
claim broadly the right to employ all equivalent instrumentalities coming within the scope of the appended claim, and by means of which, objects of my inventions-are attained and new results accomplished; as'it I herein shown and described are only some of many that can be employed to attain these objects and accomplish these results.
Having thus described my invention,
what I claim as new and desire to secure by GUSTAV E. FELSENTHAL.
