The air vent 32 isperforated in the `top 1 and is norm-ally closed bythe washer 30 under the tension spring 29. When the .bell crank is operated to unseat thevalves 1li- 18, the washer 30 is raised and opens the vent 32. Thus air is permitted to enter the Yreservoir 38 to displace the liquid wax flowing through the valves 15-18.V Seating 'of the wax valves closes the vent 32 and prevents leakage. therethrough should-.fthe jreservoir'be turnedupside down.
` ed, see Figs. 1, 3, 5. Thisplate extends across An implement of thischaracter has wide y rang-e of uses in cleaning, iwaxing, polishing and' treating lloors and other surfaces,by the use of proper attachments in combination with liquid feed mechanism.
To facilitate the application of the attachments the attaching plate 35 is providthe length of the bottom 7,` is perforated opposite the outlets 14-14 arid the edges of u gage thev flange 6 extending around the ,body of the lreservoir 38. The opposite end is bentV the perforations upset toform a wax-tight seal with the outlets 14.V The plate35 yisV pro- A vided with the hook end 36 adapted to enupward at 39 and snugly.engagesthe flange 6 andis bent outwardzand hasthe eyelet 40 curled in its end. f
The spring latch 41 has its ends bent inward to act as trunnions pivotal in thiseyelet. 'u The loop of the latch yextends upward and is bent inward at 42-42 vand has the.` vextensions 43-43 bent slightly downward and then upward at 44444 to form a catch engaging resiliently behind the crosshead 45 formed in the top 1. 'The loop 46 forms a' convenient handle for attaching vand detaching the latch from the bead. v n The plate 35 is centered between thelugs 47-47 formed on the margin 9 of the bote tom- 7 and struck outwardly therefrom on opposite sides of the hook 36 and angle 39 at both ends of the plate 35.'
Any desired form of brush,V
`of the reservoir, as above described.
In Figs. 1, 3 a pair of parallelinterspaced channels'48-48 are fixed to the underside of l' the plate 35. The strip of felt 49`is inserted n k in one channel and bent backas at and its .ends forced into the opposite channel,v Thisr screwed to the plate `35. squeegees 53-53 'are Vfixed to the plate 35 by means ofthe U shaped channel 54. The top f of thisvchannel is perforatedin line with the squeegee,` spreader or polisher can be attached to the yplate 35 and by it attached to the bottom Y. 60
v forms a loop of felt frictionally held in the channels 48-48`with its lower edge adapted -to sweep the iloor surface.
Within the loop of the felt 49 the wooden backs 51--51 of a pair of brushes 52-52 are The depending voir. Y'
The body of the implement isprovided withthe socket 55 within which the handle outlets 14-14 in the'bottom of the reserv `56 is secured. The sleeve 57 encircles the handle within convenient reach of the oper- Mator. Thissleeve has ,the cam slot 58 therethrough to engage the pin 59 screwed into the handle. The extension 60 on the sleeve is connected by the link 61 to the bell crank 34. When the Asleeve is rotated, the Ycam and pin` 58-59 coact to exert a` pullupon the link 61, which Vin turn actuates thev bell crank to lift the beam 24:j and all the valves 15 to 18, against the tension of the spring 31. (lbviously a straight pull on the sleeve would accomplish the same result if the cam and pin were absent, but the rotation of the sleeve is ay more comfortable and accurate action for opening the valves. The lift of the valves can be adjusted by means ofthe nut 30. i When the valves are lifted the liquid wax or other content 0f the reservoir 3S, flows 'downward through the outlets 14-14, be-
fused in the reservoir38,. the latch 46 is released and the assembly on the plate 35 removed. Anotherplate similar to 35 having a brush 49mm, as indicated in 'dotted lines, Fig. 5, is substituted for the polishing opera.- tion. Any number of such plates 35, having a varietyof polishing devices attached thereto, arethus easily attachable to the implement.
A modified form of attachment is indicated in Fig.6, in which the plate 35mV is broad enough to completely cover the bottom 7 land is bent up at the sides to form channels 37m- 37m adapted to slidably engage the flanges 6-6. The upper edges 39m- 39an are turned back and clinched over the sheep skin or fabric wax applicator 49x, which extendsv beneath'theplate 35m. The ends ofthis `plate may be vextended as at 4200 and provided with the latches 44adapted to engage the flange ment.
