lt is the object of this invention to provide a novel oil burner of the type wherein a circular spray of oil is formed by a rotary, motor-driven head.
More particularly, vit is my object to, provide means for securing improved distribution of oil within the rotarydhead and for securing better control of theair supply` beneath the spray whereby uniformity in the height ofthe flame around the circumference of t-he re ring is secured.
The invention also includes certain other novel features of construction which will be more fully pointed out in the following speci- I'ication and claims.
The device will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings 1n which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved oil burner, separate from the fire ring;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same with the cover plate for the distributor head removed;
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken on the line 3*-3 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a central, vertical section through the burner, re ring and adjacent portions of the furnace;
Fig. 5 is a horizontal section taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4; and
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary section taken on the line 6 6 of Fig. 4.

the lower end of which is threaded to receive a threaded nipple 12 (Figs. 3 and 4) integral with a supporting bracket 13 for an electric motor 14. This motor is attached by screws 50 15 to the bracket 13 and has a vertical shaftl lthe body casting 11.

This plate engages a cross pin 18 extending through a perforation in the shaft 16 and has a cap screw 19 engaging its upper surface and threaded in an axial, tapped bore in the shaft 16. The plate 17 is circular and its outer periphery is secured by a series of small cap screws engaging in tapped holes 20 (Fig. 2) formed in a rotary head 21. Within the head 21 a cup 22 is formed to receive the oil and projecting from the outer, lower periphery of the head is a series of substantially triangular fan blades 23. j
Four outlet openings 24 extend horizontally through the periphery of the head 21, said openings being equally spaced around the upper periphery of the cup 22 to direct 70 the oil against a. re ring 25 (Fig. 4). At its inner, lower periphery the head 21 is formed with an annular lip 26. Rigidly fastened to the body casting, above the lip 26, is an oil distributor plate 27. As shown in Figs. 2 and 4, four openings 28 are equally spaced around the periphery of the plate 27 to Supply the oil within the cup 22. The openings 28 communicate .with vertical passages 29 extending downward to an annular passage 30 which, in turn, communicates withdrilled passages 31 and 32 in the body casting 11. Oil is supplied to the lower end of the passage ,32 by a pipe 33 having a suitable connection therewith, as shown in Fig. 4.
Air is admitted to an annular chamber 34 through aseries of equally spaced peripheral openings 35 in an annular flange 36 integral 4with the ring 9. An air control ring 37 is revoluble on the outer surface of the flange 36 and has openings 38 adapted to be placed in registry with the openings 35. By turning the ring 37, the openings 35 and 38 may be partially closed, as will be readily understood. An extension 39 of the annular flange 36 projects upward to afford an abutment for refractory material 40 which. is supported on a plate 41 engaging in an annular groove at the upper periphery of theilange 36. -its outer edge the plate 41 is supported on a 10C fire box 42 having a water jacket 43 of common type.
To` install my improved burner, the effective length of the legs 7 is adjusted to bring the head 21 at the proper height within the fire box and then the plate 41 is inserted and the refractory material 40 and fire ring 25, positioned as indicated in Fig. 4. In operation the motor 14 rotates the shaft 16 and head 2l at the desired high speed and oil is admitted through the pipe 33 and passages 32, 31, 30 and 29 s0 that itis delivered in four streams to the distributor plate 27. This plate delivers the fuel to the central portion of the cup 22 and, by centrifugal force, the fuel is thrown up the sides of said cup and out through the openings 24, being delivered in a fine spray outward against the fire ring 25 where it burns. The desired mixture with air takes place as the spray of oil is thrown outward, the air entering through the openings 38 in the ring 37 and passing through the openings 35 to the chamber 34 which delivers it to the lower and inner periphery of the fan blades 23. The proper supply of air is secured by rotary adjustment of the ring 37. l
I have found that my improved burner is highly eicient and secures an unusually uniform height of circular ame by reason of the equal distribution of the oil within the cup'22 and accurate control of. the air supply.
Having described my invention, what I claim as'new and desire to ters Patent is:
1. An oil burner having in combination supporting frame, a motor mounted centrally on said frame and having a vertical drive shaft, a rotary head secured to the upper end of said shaft, an `oil cupconcentric with said shaft on said head and having a central, an-
, nular opening therein, a main body casting supported on said frame and formed with a portlon projecting upward in said opening and a distributing plate secured to the upper extremity of said body portion for delivering oil to said cup, said casting being drilled to provide a pluralityof oil supplies equally spaced around said distributor plate, and
