This invention relates to hinges used for mounting doors and available for use with many articles. The hinge construction of the present invention is particularly adapted for refrigerator use, though there are many other places where the hinge can be used, particularly where the doors rise with' respect to the surface ofthe; door frame, that is, the outer surface of the door is forward of the plane of the door frame or casing on which the door is mounted.
It is an object and purpose of the present invention to provide a novel hinge of pressed metal, so as to have an exceedingly attractive appearance and to present the appearance and effect of the hinges made from castings or forgings. The hinge comprises two essential hinge members pivotally connected together, one of the hinge members having one end portion extending between posts projecting from the other hinge member. Such posts are drawn from flat metal and are open at their inner adjacent sides and, with my invention of hinge, said open sides of the posts are closed by reinforcing and supporting members which better carry the hinge rod or pintle, affording a wider bearingsurface and strengthening and reinforcing the structure so that it will have all the necessary strength that hinges for refrigerators require.
The invention consists in many novel constructive features and in organizations of parts for the production of a novel, practical, artistic and commercially successful hinge.

In the construction of the hinge oneof the hinge members, formed from flat metal, has
a relatively large plate 1 of rectangular form and with inturned edge portions, from the intermediate portion of which the metal is pressed outwardly in a series of steps and finally' formed into a section 2 which extends beyond a side of the hinge member 1, is curved inwardly as indicated at 3 and terminates in an inturned apron 4, while at each side edge the part 2. has two spaced sides 5 turned inwardly as best shown in Fig. 3. Each of-said sides at points opposite each other is' provided with "an opening to pass the hinge pin or rod and the metal is pressed inwardly around said openings from said sides 5 making bear ing-collarsor sleeves 6 (see-Fig.4)
