Patented Dec. 20, 1932 UNITED STATES WILLIAM BECKER, F CHICAGO, ILLINOIS BELT BUCKLE application mea December 1s, 1930. serial no. 502,231.
This invention relates to a stretching belt buckle, where the stretching section thereof consists; of several small springs.
The principal object of my invention is to provide a simple, economical, eicient, comfortable and convenient belt buckle of such an elasticity -that it will readily stretch, when utilized .on a belt that is worn by a person, and subjected to the various movements of the human body.
As shown in the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the belt buckle, embodying my invention, and Figure 2 is a side view,l
and Figure 3 is a rear view of my invention.
Referring now to the drawing more in detail, my invention comprises a beltbuckle 1 having a belt clamping member pivoted thereto and formed with a bail 3; secured to the bail 3 are a plurality of parallel coil springs 4, having their ends 5 soldered to the bail 3. To the other ends 6 of the springs 4 a closed oval loop 8 is secured by similarly soldering the ends 6 of the springs to its side 7. -f'The permanent securing of the springs to both the bail and the loop holds the springs in the proper spaced parallel relation and prevents relative movement of the spring ends to each other. The loop 8 also serves on its side 9 as a means to secure the permanently fastened end of a belt to the combined buckle and elastic tensiondevice. Secured to the loop 8 and functioning as a cover and finish for the joint of the belt and loop is a plate 12 secured by soldering flanged portions thereof to the sides 10 and 11 of the loop. Surrounding the springs 4 is a covering 13 of leather which hides the springs from view and also acts as a retaining loop to secure the free end of the belt which projects beyond the buckle 1. The plate 12 can also serve to secure the free end of the belt if projecting beyond the loop 13 by inserting it between the' plate 12 and the loop 8 the plate being spaced sufliciently to permit such insertion.
The' arrangement'of parts above described effectively cover the springs and will permit stretching of the springs in service without them being disclosed to view.
It will be understood that the device herein disclosed, is but one concrete, embodiment of the essential features of my invention, and that the said invention may assumeother forms within the spirit of my invention, therefore I do not Wish to be limited to the details of construction, except as hereinafter made subject of a specific claim.
I claim as my entire invention In a belt buckle, a buckle part, a belt clamping means pivoted thereto, a bail se- 6G cured to said clamping member, an elastic tensioning means secured to said bail comprising a plurality of parallel extending coiled springs, each having one of their ends secured to said bail in spaced relation to each other and held against transverse movement on said bail by soldering said'springs thereto, a loop member having theother ends of said springs secured thereto in spaced relation by soldering, said loop forming means I0 for permanently attaching an end of a belt to said buckle, a flexible tubular protecting member enclosing said springs, and a plate member secured to said loop member and spaced therefrom, said flexible tubular member and plate member forming means to retain the free end of a belt projecting beyond said clamping means.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I aiix my si ature.
WILLIAM BECKER.
