My invention relates to packing containers for various articles and more particularly to such containers for fragile articles. My invention finds one of its principal applications in the packing of fragile glass articles such as incandescent lamps, vacuum tubes, and various other electrical devices comprising sealed containers such as glass bulbs. Objects of my invention are to reduce the amount of material in the package and also the labor of packing while providing a se cure package which will be rugged enough to stand the shocks of transportation. Other features and advantages of my invention will appear from the descri tion which follows of a species thereof and rom the accompanying drawing.

In the drawing, Fig. 1 is a perspective View of a package embodying my invention and Fig. 2 is an elevation thereof partially in section.

The package shown in the drawing comprises the outer container lOconsisting of comparatively stiff paper material, preferably a light cardboard. It is integral and referably rectangular in cross section. It is preferably open at both ends. The articles, specifically shown as incandescent lamps 11 are each contained in individual wrappers or cartons 12 which may be of the type disclosed in Blackburn application, Ser1al No. 670,378, filed October 23, 1923, and are preferably open at both ends. The said wrappers 12 preferably comprise the corrugated paper lining 13 and are dimensioned soas to be expanded by the bulge portion of the bulb. They are thus efi'ectively cushioned against shock and retain the bulb in position so that there is no sliding thereof. In placing the wrapped lamps, the arrangement is preferably such that the bulge bulb portion of one lamp is opposite the base end of the adjacent lamp.

The wrappers 12 are disposed transversely of the outer container 10 so that each open end of a wrapper is adjacent to a side of the container. The container is rovided with tabs of which are shown in the rawing 14, 15,.

and 16, preferably at least two, one on each side of the container, for each wrapper of the end rows. Such tabs may be conveniently cut or punched out of the container and extend within the same so that their ends engage the inner face of a side of an end wrap per and retain the wrapper in position in the container. The open end of the wrapperallows the tab to engage the inner surface although even with a closed end, if the side is extended therebeyond, such engagement could take place. The tabs 14, 15 may engage the outer surface of wrappers in the second row if the container is only partially filled and the second is the end row.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is

1. A package comprising an open ended outer container, a plurality of wrappers each open at both ends disposed transversely with- 1n said container, said outer container being slit to form a pair of tabs depressible to extend within said container and engage one of said wrappers, said tabs being disposed on opposite sides of said container to engage opposite ends of a wrapper.

The combination of an open-ended outer container, a plurality of wrappers located therein with ends disposed in a direction transverse to that in which the ends of the container are disposed and a lurality of tabs located on opposite sides of said container and projecting through slots in the walls thereof to engage opposite ends of said wrappers to support them within said container.
