The free end of each arm bears upon a coil spring 32 which embraces a stud 33 fixed to and rising from the bottom wall 11. The stud passes through an aperture in the arm and is threaded near its upper end to receive a nut 34. The latter serves as a stop to limit the extent to which theroll can be raised. The upper end of the stud is supported in a bracket 35. The fountain roll may be adjusted vertically by turning the nuts 34 and to this end each nut is 'formed with spiral teeth meshing with a spiral pinion 37 fixed to a shaft 38 journaled in the bracket 35. Each shaft 38 is formed with a squared end 39 for the application of Ya wrench. Obviously, by this arrangement a very close adjustment canbe made of the spacing between the fountain roll and a pick up roll 40 mounted thereabove. Y
The fountain :roll is vformed at each end withstuds 41 which pass throughl the bearings 30 and enter pockets 42 formed in the arms29. In each pocket and fixed to the fstud is a gear 43 which meshes/with a pinion 44 (Fig. 3) secured on a drive shaft 45, by which means the fountain roll is driven. Each arm 29 is formed with a bearing face 46 of somewhat larger diameter than the fountain roll but cut awayto clear theY pick up roll. This face is adapted to bear against the adjacent end of the fountain roll, and in order to keep the bearing faces in contact with the roll the arms 29 are laterally adjustable, being provided with set screws 47 which bear against finished surfacesor pads 48 formed on the end walls of the basin. The fountain roll 31- isl providedwith the usual means for controlling the'iilm of ink thereon, such means constitutinga blade 50 carried by a head 51 hinged upon the brackets 27. Since the `float chamber is located between the two basins 15 and 16 and communicates directly therewith through 1the ports 20 and 21 all iexible piping is dispensed with and the only piping ynecessary is thatconnecting the fixed section 22 with the source of'ink supply. I claim:
1. A bed plate adapted to support the frame of a printing press, said bed plate being formed with a recess adapted to serve as a fountain bowl.
2. Arbed plate for a printingpress, said bed plate being formedwith a recess adapted to serve as a fountain bowl, and 'means for maintaining a substantially constant level ofk ink therein.
3. A bed plate adapted to support the frame of a printing press, and a fountain bowl integral therewith. .i u Y 4. A bed plate for a printing press, a fountain bowl integral therewith, and means for maintaining a substantially constant level of ink therein. v Y
5. A bed plate for a printing press, said bed plate being formed with apair of recesses adapted to serve as fountain bowls, and means means between'the bowls and directly. connected therewith for maintaining a substantially Vconstant level of ink in the bowls.

12. A bed plate for a printing press formed with a recess adapted to, serve as a fountain bowl, a pair of arms mounted in the bowl, means for adjusting the arms vertically with respect to the bowl, a fountain roll jourj nalled in the arms, each arm being formed with a bearing face adapted'to bear against the adjacent end of the roll, and thrust means for holding said bearing faces against the roll. 1
13. A bed plate for a printing press formed with a recess adapted to serve as a fountain bowl, a pair of arms mounted in the bowl, means for adjusting the arms vertically` with respect to the bowl, a fountain roll-journalled in the arms, each arm being formed with a bearing face adapted to kbear against the adjacent end of the roll, and a set screw on each arm, the bowl being formed with finished surfaces at each end against which the set screws are adjustable to hold said bearing faces against the ends of the roll.
