scription, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, which lllustrates'a preferred embodiment of the inventive idea.
In the drawing 7 t Figure 1 is a perspective view of the handle with the invention; r
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section there,- through;
Figure 3 is an elevation, partly broken away and shown in section, of the handle iii its folded position; and
Figure 411s an end elevation of Figure 3. Referring more particularly to the drawing, the grip of the handle'is shown as comprising a pair of complemental sections 5 and 6 made of any suitable material, such as light metal, which can be stamped out to form said sections. Each section is of substantially U-shaped formation in cross-section so as to present a smooth rounded under surface adapted to be engaged by the hand of the user. The inner or meeting ends of the sections 5 and6 are each provided, respectively, with a pair of opposed lugs 7 and 8 through which a pin 9 is extended to pivotally join said sections together so that they may be swung to a folded position, as shown in Figures 3 and 4, with the longitudinal Adjacent the inner end of the section 6 the same is provided with opposed notches 10, either of which is adapted forthe insertion of a finger nail so as to facilitate the swing 1931. Serial No. 531,481.
ing of the sections to their operative or longitudinally aligned position. Detents 11 may be formed in the lugs 7 and 8 and are adapted to interengage when the sections are folded so as to frictionally maintain the same in such position when the handle is not in use.
At the outer end of each of the sections of the grip the same has formed inthe bottom thereof a longitudinally extending slot 12 adapted'to receive'the shank of a supporting hook 13 when the latter is in its operative position, the inner end of the slot acting as an abutment against which the shank impinges so as to maintain the hook in a substantially perpendicular position relative to the grip. Like the sections 5 and 6, the hooks l3 be stamped from a sheet of-material and rolled atone end to provide the hook portion 14. The opposite end of each'mem-' ber 13'extends into its associated section of the grip and is pivotally mounted therein on a pin 15, so that the hook may be swungto its operative and inoperative positions. When-it is desired to fold the handle the hooks 13 are first swung about theirpivots into-nested position within their respectivesections and the latter are then turned about their pivot 9 until the longitudinal edges of the sections abut, as in Figure 3. In this position the detents'll are aligned and the sections are frictionally'held in folded condition. 7
What is claimed is:
A foldable handle comprising a grip consisting of pivotally connected sections of channeled formation foldable one upon the other with their longitudinal edges in engagement and extensible to longitudinally aligned positions, each section having opposed lugs at its inner end abutting the lugs of the other section and said lugs having detents interengaged with each other to frictionally maintain the sections in folded position, one of said sections having notches in the edges thereof adjacent the pivotal conneotion of said sections, a hook member pivoted to each section adjacent its outer end and also being of channeled formation and v a separate pivot for each hook member extending through the same and adjacent portions of the associated section, each hook member being suspended from its section in perpendicular relation thereto and further being movable about its pivot to a nested position Within its section.
In testimony whereof, I have affixed my signature.
EUGENE LUGKS-OSTEN.
