ENSLEY COMBINED TOY AND GAME Filed July 14, 1931 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Oct. 18, 1932 EJNHTED STATES PATENT OFFICE MAJOR A. ENSLEY, OF ROCHESTER, NEWYORK, ASSIGNOR TO ALL FAIR INGOBPORATED,
OF GHURCHVILLE, NEW YORK COMBINED TOY AND GAME The present invention relates to a combined toy and game and an object thereof is to make it possible to use parts of a toy for the playing of a game so that a child has two amusement devices in one structure.
To these and other ends, the invention consists of certain parts and combinations of parts, all of which will be hereinafter described, the novel features being pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a toy and game constructed in accordance with this invention;
I Fig. 2 is a front view of the same;
Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section through the toy and game;
Fig. 4 is a plan View of the blank which forms the fuselage;
Fig. 5 is a section on the line 55, Fig. 3; and
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of one of the game bodies.
In the illustrated embodiment the toy is in the form of an air-plane comprising, in this instance, a fuselage formed from a single blank of card or paper board, as shown in Fig. 4, folded longitudinally at 1 to provide two sides 2 in diverging relation extending from the front to the rear of the toy. Near its front the sides are widened to provide rests 3 for a plane it, fasteners 5 connecting said sides with the plane.
Tongues 6 are extended forwardly from the sides and are bent inwardly in overlaping relation to form the support for the shaft 7 of the propeller 8. This shaft has a cylindrical portion on which the propeller turns and a non-circular portion 9 which is held against turning in the flaps 6. On the non-circular portion 9 is a disk 10 which has characters 11 on the front face over which the propeller 8 turns. The propeller has, between its blades, two oppositely extending indexes 12, each of which will point to one of the numbers. The propeller blades project beyond the disk so that they may be engaged by the hand to spin the propeller. It will thus be seen that the propeller acts as a chance device for the game.
The running gear comprises an axle 13 which is supported by two wheels 14 and connects with the wings or plane 4 by two braces 15. Two pairs of converging braces 16 and 17 extend from the axle 13 and con- 5 nect with the sides of the fuselage. Spacers 18 are arranged on the axle between each pair of braces 16 and 17 to hold the latter against movement axially of the axle. A longitudinal brace 19 is secured at its for- 30 ward end to the axle 13, is passed through a slot 20 in the fuselage and has its rear end secured at 21 to the rear end of the fuselage between the two sides thereof.
The plane 4: serves as a game board and to this end may have its top surface provided with a starting field 22 from which leads four paths of two different colors to a finishing field 2 1. The paths 23 are divided into blocks or sections and adjacent the starting path the paths of the same color areside byside as at 23, until a neutral zone 25 is reached, when they merge into a common block 26 from which a common path 27 branches to the four different paths between the neutral zone and the finishing field 24: where for a distance they are alternately arranged as to colors, as at 28. The four paths then cross each other and produce the portions 29 and produce neutral zones 30 and 31 where a path of one color intersects a path of another color. In connection with the game board, four game pieces or bodies 32 may be employed, of two different colors to correspond to the colors of the paths. These bodies are, in this instance, shaped to simulate air-planes.
In playing the game, the four bodies are placed in the starting field 22 and the propeller 8 is turned by hand. When the propeller stops, the indexes 12 will point to two of the members '11 on the dial 12. The player then shift his pieces along his pathways a number of blocks corresponding to the numbers indicated on the dials. This is continued by each player until the finishing field 31 is reached, the first reaching the field 31 with back pieces winning the game. The neutral zones may be employed for retarding or stopping the other player at these points.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A toy air-plane comprising a fuselage formed from a single piece of sheet material bent to provide two upwardly diverging sides, a slot being provided in the material at the bend near the rear ends of the sides, a plane resting upon the upper edges of the sides adjacent their forward ends, a running gear connected to the forward portion of the fuselage, and a brace extending rearwardly from the running gear, passed through the slot it the bend and secured to the sides above the enc MAJQR A.
