This invention relates to manifolding sales books in which triplicate copies of records.

are required and is of the type in which heavy duty carbon sheets are usedto make a number of copies of records by using the same successively in different sets of leaves.

One of the objects of this invention is to provide a simple practical sales book of the above character in which the carbonized sides of the transfer sheets will not be eX posed to the hands of the sales person using the same or merchandise with which they,

At the'point of connection between each of aforesaid sheets is a line of perforations. The record sheets when folded as above described are in zig-zag form.

One of the transfer sheets is adapted, when the book is ready for use, to be inserted be neath thetriplicate sheet and the other between the duplicate sheet and the original sheet. The latter transfer sheet preferably does not extend quite as far as the line ,of con" nection between the two sheets.

The strip or set of record sheets comprises the original recordsheet 1, the duplicate record sheet 2 and the, triplicate record sheet 3. i The original. sheet 1 and the duplicate sheet 2 may lee-made of opaque paper while the triplicate sheet 3 is either of thin translu= cent paper adhesively secured to theduplicate sheet or else may be a part integral with the duplicate sheet and treated by known methods to render it translucent. Each tripe licate sheet 3 is provided with a binding margin 3 at one end thereof. By its other margin 3 the. triplicate sheet 3, if a separate. piece, is glued or otherwise secured tothe duplicatesheet 2. The duplicate sheet2 is connected to the triplicate sheet 3 in: such a manner that it lies over the triplicate sheet 3 as illustrated. in the drawing. At the margin or end of. theduplicate sheet 2 opposite to the-margin to which the triplicate sheet 3 is secured, the original sheet 1 isiconnected. The sheet 1 is. preferably integral with the sheet 2 and is provided with perforations at the point of connection. between them. The record sheets 1 and 2 are preferably of ordinary opaque paper, but for some purposes per as the sheet 3 and formed integral therewith. WVhen in use the sheet 1 is folded over the sheet 2 so that the record sheets-are arranged in zig-zag form and constitute a set of triplicate record leaves. 7 A plurality of sets or strips ofrecord sheets are bound into a cover by means of metal stitches 4. The cover comprises a front 5 anda back 6 and a flexible binding connection 7,between the front and back cover.v

The carbon or transfer sheets 8 and 9 are arranged with their carbonized surfaces facing one another and are secured to the back of the cover by means of metal stitches 10. Preferably the end of the back 6 is turned over the margin of the carbon or transfer sheets, andthe stitches 10 pass through. the turned-over portion 6 and secure the carbon sheets between the said turned-over portion 6 and'the back 6. If desired, two or more sets of carbon sheets may be thus bound into the book. The carbon sheet 9 has a clean margin 9 which projects beyond the end of the carbon sheet 8. Alternatively the carbon sheets may be connected to one side of the cover instead of the end (see Fig. 4)

Assuming the book to be as shown in Fig. 1, the first set of leaves having been written on and the record sheets 1 and 2 detached from the book and the translucent record sheet 3 thrown back over the front cover and the second set'of record sheets and carbon sheets arranged as shown in Figs. 1 and 4, a record can then be made on the original record sheet 1 which will be reproduced on the duplicate record sheet 2 by means of the carbon sheet 9 and on the underside of the triplicate sheet 3 by means of the carbon sheet 8, the copy'on the triplicate sheet being made on the underside thereof and visible on the upper or face side thereof by reason of the and pulled back over the open front cover as far as possible. Next, the first finger of the left hand is pressed down on the now upper left hand corner of the triplicate translucent sheet and with the right hand the original and duplicate sheets are pulled away from the operator and to the right detaching the combined original and duplicate sheets from the triplicate sheet along the line of perforations ll. This line of perforations is formed in the end of the duplicate sheet adjacent its point of connection withthe triplicate sheet, but in some cases the perforations may be dispensed with and the natural weakness at the point of connection between the triplicate sheet and the duplicate sheetdepended upon to permit the separation of the two sheets After the original and duplicate sheets have been removed the two are separated. The next operation is to prepare the third set of record sheets for use, which is done as follows: The upper right hand corner of the third set of record sheets projects slightly beyond the end of the carbon sheets and is gripped between the thumb and first'finger of the right hand and the record-sheets pulled from beneath the carbon sheets and thrown back over the front cover 5. The upper left hand corner of the clean margin 9 of the carbon sheet 9 is then gripped between the thumb and first finger of the left hand and lifted up. At the same time the grip on the original and duplicate sheets is released allowing them to fall on the front cover. Next the lower edges of the original andduplicate sheets alongwith the new upper edge of the triplicate sheet is grasped between the thumb and first finger of the right handand the sheets are thus pulled forward over the lower carbon sheet 8 in such a manner that the duplicate and triplicate sheets are permitted to slip from between the fingers on to the lower carbon sheet 8, while the original sheet 1 is still held. The carbon sheet 9 is then thrown over the duplicate sheet and the original sheet is dropped on top of the carbon sheet 9. The.

1. A sales book comprising a cover; a plurality of manifolding units each comprising a record sheet .oftranslucent paper provided with a stub bound to the cover at one end, a record sheet adhesively secured at one end to the outer end of the said translucent sheet, and an original record sheet connected to the other end of the said second record sheet, the three sheets normally lying in superimposed relationship; and a pair of transfer sheets bound. to the other end of the cover and rear bonized ontheir adjacent faces. 7

Asales book comprising .a cover; a plurality of manifolding units each comprising. a record sheet oftranslucent paper provided with a stub bound :to the cover. at one end, a record sheet connected at one end to the outer end of the said translucent sheetuand an original record sheet connected to the other end of the said second record sheet,

the three sheets normally lying in superimposed relationship; and a pair of transfer sheets bound to the other end of the cover and carbonized on their adjacent faces.

3. A sales book comprising a cover; a plurality of manifolding units each comprising a record sheet of translucent paper provided with a stub bound to the cover at one end, a record sheet adhesively secured at one end to the outer end of the said translucent sheet, and an original record sheet connected to the other end of the said second record sheet, the three sheets normally lying in superimposed relationship; and a pair of transfer sheets bound to the cover and adapted to fold in with one underlying the translucent record sheet of a unit and the other lying between the other two record sheets, the said transfer sheets being carbonized on their adjacent faces.

A sales book comprising a cover; a plurality of manifolding units each comprising a record sheet of translucent paper provided with a stub bound to the cover at one end, a record sheet connected at one end to the outer end of the said translucent sheet, and an original record sheet connected to the other end of the said second record sheet, the three sheets normally lying in superimposed relationship; and a pair of transfer sheets bound to the cover and adapted to fold in with one underlying the translucent record sheet of a unit and the other lying between the other two record sheets, the said transfer sheets being carbonized on their adjacent faces.

5. A sales book comprising a cover; a plurality of triplicate manifolding units each comprising a translucent triplicate record sheet secured at one end to the cover, a duplicate record sheet connected at one end to the other end of the triplicate sheet and an original record sheet connected at one end to the other end of the duplicate sheet; and a pair of transfer sheets carbonized on adjacent surfaces only and secured to the other end of the cover.

6. A sales book comprising a cover; a plurality of triplicate manifolding units each comprising a translucent triplicate record sheet secured at one end to the cover, a duplicate record sheet connected at one end to the other end of the triplicate sheet and an original record sheet connected at one end to the other end of the duplicate sheet; and a pair of transfer sheets secured to another margin of the cover, said transfer sheets adapted to be interleaved between the record sheets and having adjacent surfaces only carbonized.

7 A sales book comprising a cover; a plurality of triplicate manifolding units each comprising a translucent triplicate record sheet secured at one end to the cover, a duplicate record sheet connected at one end to the other end of the triplicate sheet and an original record sheet connected at one end to the other end of the duplicate sheet; and a pair of transfer sheets secured to another margin of the cover, said transfer sheets adapted to be interleaved between the record sheets and having adjacent surfaces only carbonized, said upper transfer sheet having an uncarbonized end portion projecting beyond the end portion of the other transfer sheet. 7

A sales book comprising a cover; a plurality of triplicate manifolding units each comprising a translucent triplicate record sheet secured at one end to the cover, a duplicate record sheet connected at one end to the other end of the triplicate sheet and an original record sheet connected at one end to the other end of the duplicate sheet; and a pair of transfer sheets having adjacent surfaces only carbonized and secured to the other end of the cover and interfolded with the record sheets in such a manner that the triplicate record sheet and the duplicate record sheet are disposed in direct superposed relationship between the two carbon sheets.

9. A sales book comprising a cover; a plurality of triplicate manifolding units each comprising three record sheets. connected at their ends and connected at one end of one of the sheets to one margin of the cover, said record sheets being normally disposed in superposed relationship with the duplicate sheet connected at opposite ends to the original and triplicate sheets, the latter being translucent; and a pair of superposed transfer sheets carbonized on adjacent surfaces only secured to another margin of the cover; two of said record, sheets being disposed in superposed relationship between said two transfer sheets.

A sales book having a cover carrying a triplicate manifolding unit comprising three connected superposed record sheets se cured to one margin of the cover and two superposed transfer sheets connected to another margin of the cover, said transfer sheets being carbonized on adjacent surfaces only and interleaved with the record sheets in such a manner that the two lowermost record sheets are disposed in superposed relationship between said transfer sheets and the uppermost transfer sheet is disposed between the two uppermost record sheets, the lowermost record sheet being translucent.

11. A sales book comprising a cover, a plurality of triplicate manifolding units each comprising three normally superposed connected record sheets connected along a margin of one of the sheets to one margin of the cover; two superposed transfer sheets carbonized on adjacent surfaces only connected to another margin of the cover and adapted to successively serve the record sheets of the several units to receive-between them two superposed record sheets with the upper record sheet overlyingthe other earhon sheet, the lowermost record sheet being translucent.
