STATES PATENT OFFICE JAMES E. MYERS, OF WHITEFISI-I BAY, WISCONSIN HUMIDIFIER AND HEATER Application filed March 16, 1931. Serial No. 522,978.
This invention relates to an improved Figure 2 is a detailed section on the line humidifier and heater. 22 of Figure 1.
One of the objects of the present invention In the construction of a device of this is the provision of an improved type of hucharacter, I provide a frame work 1 which 6 midifier and heater which is adapted for is supported upon suitable brackets 2 caruse in regulating the humidity of a room rying rollers 3 whereby the device can be or building and, at the same time, giving oil readily moved from place to place. At the enough heat to increase the temperature back and both sides of the frame, I provide thereof and also to provide a device which panels 4L which not only enclose the mechais portable so that the same can be moved nism within the frame, but also presents a 60 about from one room to another in a buildneat appearance to the exterior of the deing and used wherever desired. vice. 8
Another object of the present invention is In the front of the device, I provide a the provision of a portable humidifier and comparatively short panel 5, and an upper heater 'which includes. in its construction a panel 6 carrying grille work 7 through which 65 heater for heating water in a suitable tank the humidified air from the interior of the to provide the proper amount of moisture housing passes into the room or building in and a supply tank for the first tank, together which the device is located. Supported with means for automatically cutting off the within the housing formed by the frame and heater Whenthe water in the supply tank is the panels, is a main supply tank 8, carry- 70 lowered to a predetermined level, and indiing angular brackets 9 and 9 which are eating IHBFLDStO disclose the fact that the adapted to cooperate with similar brackets water level has reached a predetermined 10 and 10 carried by the panels for suppoint and the heater cut off. porting the supply tank 8 within the hous- A further object of the present invention ing,
' is the provision of acombined humidifier The supply tank is provided with an upand heater which includes a portable hous- Wardly projecting conduit 11 having a funinghaving arranged therein, a water supply nel-shaped mouth 12 at its upper end adapttank and a heating'tank, together with a ed to be disposed directly below the opening heater arranged TlI1' C1056 proximity t0 the 13 fonned in the, top nember 14 for the, heating tank, so that the water can be heated frame. The opening 13 is normally closed to a temperature to give off sufiicient moisby means of a hinged door 15 which can be ture for changing the humidity of a room or swung open to permit the tank 8 to be filled building and at the same time radiating through the conduit 11.

Attention is directed to and Supported therem y means Of the the fact that the device includes means for bracket 16 is a heating tall-k the upper automatically cutting off the heater when the d Of Whlch p as lnfflstmted F1gure 1, and this tank communicates at its water su pl reaches a predetermined level.
y upper and lower ends with the tank 8 ad a cent its upper and lower ends by means of lVith the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel featur s l l L b the connecting conduits 18, so that the water level in the two tanks will remain the same,
of construction, the combination and arl r 1? i l mnbement of parts berelnaftel mote and the supply of water in the tank 17 will 45 set h, P Out in h Claims F be replenished from the tank 8. Show? 1n h p y g drawmgs Arranged within the body and supported Wheremi adjacent the heating tank 17 is a heater 19,
Figure 1 is Sectional f of my preferably in the form of an electric heater improved humidifier and heater, illustrating having laterally disposed pins 20 projecting 59 parts thereof in elevation; from each end thereof, as shown in Figure 2,
' cated. Therefore,
ping onto the rugs with their outer ends laterally disposed as shown at 21 and adapted to be fitted within suitable bearing sleeves 22, carried by the opposed side panels for the housing.
Arranged at one side of the tank is a plate 23, the upper end of which is disposed at an angle, as shown at 24, and is connected to the frame 1 above the grille panel 6. Through this arrangement, ent that the inclined portion 24L of the plate 23 causes the heat and vapor arising from the heater 19 and tank 17 to pass outwardly through the grille 7 and into the room or building in which the device is located.
However, the vapor from tank 17 striking the inclined portion 24 will cause a certain amount of the vapor to condense and this will run down onto the plate 23 and into the trans verse trough 25 at the lower end thereof to prevent the drippings from coming in contact with the surface on which the device is 10- the device may be placed 1n a room on rugs, or the like, and the condensed vapor will be prevented from dripby means of the trough 25.
In .order to retain the heat from the tank 8, an insulating member 26 is positioned between the side wall of the tank and the plate 23. Pivotally mounted within the tank 8 is a rockable arm 27 having a float 28 at one end thereof, with a link 29 pivotally connected to the other end. This link is connected to the throw-arm 30 of a switch mechanism 31. This switch mechanism is connected up with a heater 19 so that when the float 28 drops downwardly to the dotted line position shown in Figure 2, the switch will be actuated to cutoff the heater 19.
In order to indicate the cutting off of the heater, a suitable light 32 is arranged in the circuit with the switch, this light being visible from the exterior of the body, so that a person operating the device can readily ascertain when the water in the tank has fallen L to a predetermined level for replenishment and the heater 19 cut-off. The manually actuated throw-lever 33 is arranged upon the exterior of the housing so that the switch 31 can be manually actuated when it is desired to cutoff or turn on the heater 19.
The frame 1 is cut away at the front of the device just above the grille panel 6 to provide an air vent 34 whereby any heat within the upper part of the body will be conveyed outwardly through the vent 34 by means of air circulating up through the bottom of the body. From the above, it will be apparent that I have provided a simple and inexpensive unit which can be used as a humidifier and a heater, and is mounted for transportation from room to room of a building so that the same can be used for changing the humidity of the airin the room and at the same time assist in increasing the temperature thereof.
7 The device is extremely useful in view of it will be apparthe fact that it can be turned on and without any attention whatever, will be automatically cutoff when the water supply thereof drops to a predetermined level, which will be indicated by the signal light 32.
