IMPROVEMENT IN SPICE-BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 188,040, dated March 6, 1877 application filed February 10. 1877.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I,ORVLLL M. BROOK, of Monroeton, in the county of Bradford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Combined Salt-Cellar and Pepper-Box, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists in the combination of a pepper-box and salt-cellar, the latter bem ing screwed on or otherwise attached to the former, so that it may be readily detached when 'salt is used.
The object of the invention is to provide a convenient and desirable article for containing pepper and salt for table use.
Referring to the drawing, which is a central vertical section, A is a salt-cellar, which is in form a hollow cylinder, open at its upper end. B is a pepper-box that is recessed at its lower end to receive the upper edges of the salt-cellar A. The salt-cellar may be provided with an external thread fitted to an internal thread formed in the sides of the recess in the lower end of the pepper-box, or any other convenient fastening may be used to hold the pepper-box and salt-cellar together. The pepper-box is provided with a cylindrical cavity, a, which is rounded at its upper end and stopped at its lower end by a stopper, b, that is provided with a knob, c, by which it may be withdrawn. Perforations d are made in the upper end of the pepper-box, through which the pepper may escape from the cavity a.
The device may be made in any ornamental design and from any suitable material.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The pepper-box B, having the internal cavity a, stopper b, and recess for receiving the salt-cellar, in combination with the salt-cellar A, substantially as herein shown and described.
