Description

R. H. BROWN Sept. 27, 1932.
WATERING BOWL AND A MEANS FOR SUPPORTING THE SAME Filed Nov. 12 1928 IIIIIIII/ Rom" Hnmnou Bnoun,
INVENTOR. I
AT ORNEY.
Patented Sept. 27, 1932 l v UNITED STATES) FATE orrics ROBERT HAMILTON BROWN, ,OIF OTTAWA, ONTARIO, CANADA WATERING BOWL AND A MEANS FOR SUPPORTING THE SAME.
Application filed November 12, 1928, Serial No. 318,734, and in Ganada September 12, 1928.v
This invention relates to watering bowls and a means for supporting the same, whereby the bowls will be held in rigid relationship to the bracket connected to the upright 011V which it is retained.
The principal object of my invention is to provide for the rigid supporting of the bowls in such a manner that the interlocking parts will be fixedly and positively retained in proper position so as to eliminate the con stant possibility of having these parts displaced during the feeding of the animals.
A further object of my invention is to pro vide for the rigid supporting of the bowls from one side adjacent the top and bottom of the same in such relationship to the bracket from which it is supported, that the bowl may be removed or placed in position while being held in a horizontal position.
A further object of my invention is to provide a means of rigidly supporting the bowls, comprising a bracket, having integral, spaced lugs, the outer contour of which conforms to the contacting face of the upright on which it is retained.
With the foregoing and other objects in V View as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of co-operating elements as hereinafter more specifically set forth, claimed and shown in the accompanying drawing forming a part of the present application, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side plan view of the preferred embodiment of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a detail view of a section of the bowl looking from the outside towards the engagement lugs.
Fig. 4 is shown to illustrate the position of the bowl during the removal or positioning of the same from or to the bracket.
Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the different views.
5 is an upright which may be of cylindrical form or provided with multilateral surfaces,
the purpose of which will hereinafter be setforth. 6 isa bracket, having a central open- -tions and a plug 8 would be used to close the other of said portionsj Each end of "the bracket 6 is provided with an annular flange 6 to strengthen these end portions in which the pipe 7 may be connected. The bracket 6 I is provided withintegralspacedlugs 9, which lugs are preferably of angle-iron formation, one portion 9 of which extends longitudinally parallel on each side of the portion of the bracket adjacent the upright 5 while the other portion 9 of the angle-iron. formation extends outwardly towards theupright 5 and is provided with an outer contour conforming in shape to that'portion of the upright with which it is to contact. 10 are U-shaped clips fitting around the upright 5 and having their ends extended through openings formed in. the portions 9*. .The nuts 11, threadedly engaged on the ends of the clips 10, retain the lugs .9 in proper contact relationship with theiupright 5.
Integral withand extending outwardly adjacent the upper end of the bracket 6, I pro vide a supporting means 12 for the top of the bowl, the watercontrol valve and the animal control lever for operating the valve. On 80 each side of this supporting means, I provide outwardly extended lugsl l. 15 is the bowl, which is provided with a rearwardlyextending portion 16 to accommodate the valve 17 and the means'for controlling the same. The 1 rear wall of this portion 16 extends upwardly to provide'the bifurcated locking lug-'18, which lug straddles under the supporting" means 12. The edge of the bowl adjacent the lug 1 8 is notched at both sides to engage the lower edge of the lugslld. l
direction during the removal or positioning of the bowl. I
22 is the animal control lever for operating the valve 17. This lever is pivotally supported on the free end of the arm 12 extending downwardly from the forward end of the supporting means .12.
The construction as disclosed in this appli cation sets forth a means for supporting watering bowls designed to overcome unfdes irable features which have 'beem-found. by ac tual experience inhandling bowls now being used by the public.-- I provide a simple andefficient construction, whereby the interlocking parts provide positive means for retain ing-thebowlin properposition and eliminate unnecessary parts which are. commonly. subject toidisplacement during the feedingv of the animal .oraccidentallyfby the stableman while working around. the :stalls. Furthermore, there is a very important featuresin my con-- structionin'that the bowl maybe removed-or placed-in position whilebeing-held in a horizontal positionn Withthe common constructIOIIS IIOW OII the market nany'of thevalve connections and animallever connections are.
