Description
A. CESARIO SAFETY RAZOR Sept. 13, 1932.
Filed June 16 1950 AToRNEY Patented Sept. 1.3, 1932 UNITED STATESv AURELIO cEsARIo, OE NEW YORK, N. Y.
SAFETY RAZOR Application led .Tune 16, 1930. lSerial No. 461,285.
This invention relates to new and usefull improvements in a safety razor.
The invention has for an object the provision of a device of the class mentioned which is of simple durable construction, de-
pendable in use and efcientin action, and
which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost.
The invention proposes a sheet section having a top portion with transverse corrugations, a bottom portion bent upon itself and clamped onto the top edge of a blade section having a sharpened bottom edge and positioned with its front face at an acute angle to the vertical, said bottom portion comprising a front layer connected at its bottom edge with the bottom edge of said top portion and a rear layer terminating slightly below the bottom edge of said blade section and formed with vertical corrugat-ions and curved rearwards for constituting a guard and formed with apertures for the passage of soap from the front to the rear.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the follow' ing description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claim in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a blade constructed according to this invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged transverse sectional view of the device taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 3-8 of Fig. 2.
The safety shaving blade comprises a sheet section 10 having a top portion 11 with transverse corrugations 12, a bottom portion 13 bent upon itself and clamped into the top edge 14 of a blade section 15 having a sharpened bottom edge 16 and positioned with its front face 17 at an acute angle to the vertical, vsaid bottom portion 13 comprising a front layer 18 connected at its bottom edge with the bottom edge of said top portion 10 and a rear layer lterminating slightly below the bottom edgey of kthe blade ysection 15 and formed' with vertical corrugations 20 and curved rearwardsA for constituting a' guard and formed with apertures 21 for the passage .of soap from the frontto the rear.' 55
The sheet section 10'is preferably madel from springy metal. The transverse corrugations 12 serve' to providefor manual gripping of the blade, the fingers resting upon cert-ain of the'corrugations to provide w firm holding. Referencev numeral 22 indicates several fingers of ones hands in the operation 'of holding the blade. The connection between the front layer 18 of the bottom portion and the bottom edge of the top poru tion 10 is accomplished by a bend, the portions being integral. The vertical corrugations 20 extend from the bottom edge of the bottom section 13 to behind the blade section 15. The apertures 21 are located slight- 70' ly above the bottom edge of the blade section 17 so that soap entering beneath the blade can vpass through to the rear of the sheet section.
In operation of the plate, the top portion V 11 acts as a guard in that the blade 17 cannot be tilted too far in one direction since the por-V tion 11 will then be flush against oncs face and prevent further turning. In addition,
the top portion 11 constitutes a guide for the 80 proper holding of the blade 15 in that when it is flat against the skin the blade 15 is at the most eicient cutting angle. In addition, the top portion 10 may be used as a handle, eliminating the need of an actual handle.
The horizontal corrugations 12 add to the resiliency of the top portion 11 allowing a certain amount of flexing of the blade 15 relative to ones skin when the device is drawn thereover. This resiliency eliminates possible pulling of the blade section 15 adding to the comfort of shaving. Further, the resiliency changes the feel of the sharp edge of the blade upon ones 'skin to that of a smooth object being drawn thereover instead of a sharp one. The correct holding of the blade section 15 to produce the proper cutting angle eliminates possibility of cutting ones hair too close and running the danger of ingrown hairs. The bend between the bottom of the roo layer 18 and the bottom of the top portion ll adds resiliency to the holding of the blade section and supplements the resiliency of the corrugations 12.
Vhile I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention1 it is to be understood that I do not liinit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modi# lications coming Within the scope of the invention as defined in the appendedclaiin.
I-Iaving thus described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by United i States Letters Patent is A shaving blade holder formed of a single rectangular strip of resilient sheet metal comprising a handle portion transversely corrugated, a blade holder portion at one end of the handle consisting ofa transverse flat portion adjacent the handle a transverse fold in contact With the -flat portion and a second transverse fold spaced from the first fold to form a blade gripping pocket, and a` longitudinally corrugated blade guard portion at the end of said second fold curved away from the blade pocket and provided with soap passing apertures.
In-testimony whereof I have aiiixed my sig-- nature.
` AURELIO CESARIO.
