This invention relates to boilers or water heaters particularly adapted for use in connection with the heating system of a building or the like, and more particularly has to do 5; with a new and improved flue construction. f In the ordinary type of gas heater or gas boiler provision is madeby means of a draft hood for the passage of the products of combustion from the interior of the boiler to the The draft hood ordinarily being of rather large construction and being disposed on the top of the boiler thereby takes up considerable head room. A-further object of the invention is to provide a fine construction embodying the invention which is inexpensive to manufacture, neat in appearance, and exceptionally efficient in operation. 7
With the objects above indicated and other objects hereinafter explained in view the 1nvention consists in the construction and combination of elements hereinafter described and claimed.

In the drawing I have illustrated the upper portion of a gas boiler or water heater ofthe usual construction, embodying side walls 10, a front wall 11, and a rear wall 12, comprising a heat insulated casing for the boiler. A plurality ofcast iron water sections 13, four 7 of which are here shown, are-arranged side by side and supported on a suitable base not structed so as to admit air from the boiler :materially, improve the appearance of the gas -at 17-. The-opposite end of the flue top 15 is provided with a depending flange 18 which hasbolted or otherwise secured thereto a plurality of supporting arms 19, the lower endsofj which rest upon the upper surfaces Fig. 3 is a perspective vlew of the baffle shown. These water sections 18 are suitably connected together at the top byan outlet manifold 1 1 while the lower portions of the watersections and at therear are connected together in the usual manner by-an inlet manifold not shown. The products: of combustion from the gas burners pass upwardly between the adjacent sides of the sections 13 and ordinarily pass off through the draft hood mounted upon the top of the boiler which communicates with the chimney. The draft hood is usually con room to thereby break the intensity of the draft'produced'by the chimney and also for the purpose ofdiverting back drafts. This construction, however, requires considerable overhead room and does not present a very pleasing appearance.
It is the purpose of the present invention to provide a flue construction which is contained within the boiler casing to thereby boiler and at the same time eliminate the necessity for any appreciable amount of head room in connection with'the installation of the boiler. i H
A cast ironfiue top 15 extends substantially horizontally above thewater sections 13 and has one end turned downwardly to 1 provide a flange 16 which is supported upon the top of the water sections-13 as indicated creased as desired. This flanged opening 20 is adapted to communicate with the chimney by suitable pipes not shown, to thereby carry off the products of combustion from within the boiler.
Directly beneath the forward portion of the flanged opening, 20 is a depending bafie 21 provided with an annularly extending flange 22, the upper surface of which is adapted to: engage with the undersurface of I the flue top" adjacent the-forwardportion of the flanged opening 20. This baffle 21 is provided with laterally extending" ears or" projections 23 integral withthe outer surface of the flange 22 and the ears 23 are bolted or otherwise secured as at 2a to' the hue top 15. The-baffle 21 extends dbwnwaard Ly and rearwardly'coverinrgi a portion of the fi'amg'ed opening and extends rearward'ly far enough to prevent the back drafts from passing from the chimney into the combusti'on: chamber of the boiler. r

4. In a boiler of the character described, a plurality of water sections having laterally extending cooperating flanges at the upper portions thereof and extending forwardly at an incline, said cooperating flanges being;
cut away to provide openings through which the products of combustion may pass, a member supported by said boiler sections and having an opening through which productsof combustion may pass, and a baffle asso-- ci ated with said member adjacent the forward portion of said opening, said bafile extending rearwardly at an angle and substantially overlapping the forward edges of said flanges and adjacent the rear portions of said openings.
