As illustrated in thedrawing, this invention is shown as embodied in a device adapted to be connected with conduits supplying respectively a liquid fuel and an atomizing avent such as compressed air or steam. heans are provided for the mixing of the two elements so that an eiicient atomization will occur, and such that will result. y Y
A pipe 1 connected to a lsource of fuel supply, not shown, and a pipe 2 connected to a source of air or steam supply, are secured to a fitting 3 by threaded connections. A cylindrical opening 4 and a cylindrical opening 5 in the fitting 3 are continua-tions respectively of the pipes or conduits land 2. The fitting 3 has a flat perpendicular face adapted to match the face of a fitting 6. `A cylindrical opening 7 through the fitting 6 registers lwith the opening 4 and an opening 8 of novel form registers with the opening 5. The opening 8 is substantially wider than its depth and has the form best shown in Fig. 5.
VThe fitting 6 has a perpendicular recess 10 registers with the opening 7 and an opening 11 registers with the opening 8. Grooves 12 form a communication between the recess 10 and the opening 11 whereby the fuel and the atomi'zing agent are co-mingled a long narrow hot flame Y fducedathrough.the. conduits 11 `and 2, respectively, and into the fitting 91 wherethey are mixed,`tl ie 'mixture passingli'nto the tube`f13 where its movement causes `the.;rotationo'f the face i adapted to match the face of a fitting 9. A tube 13 is secured to 'the outer'face of the l :fitting 9,V and in cominunicationwiththe opening S11. Vanes 14 are mounted `forfreerota 'tion on the spider 15 Within the ltube;v A1355 jacket 16 is secured about'fthe tube 13 and has its'outer end tapered as shown at 17 to form Y an annular deflecting plate. `A chamber with thetub'e 13 is in communication withlo throught-he fitting V6 and intercepting the passage 8. -A cylindrical valve stem '22`in 22. Thestem also has Va segmental portion rel'rrrovedat 'the end 2'3,as best shown vin Fig. 5,' in"the same position as thefother relieved portion thus thestem may be turned` b.y"33{5 a convenient tool, the position of the Vcut-away port-ionjindicating thexposition ofthe valve. vThe fluid and atomizing agent are intro-.j

i; The :fitting-members 13', 6 and are attached `v together' in the manner shown and 'constitute ai body, `The'openings 4, '7, 10 and12 provide ap'assage through said body from'the pipe 1 'to-theop'ening 11. The openings 5 and 8 constitute a passage"thronghfthe body fromfthe "pip'ef2 --to the opening11..:` fThef-air Vand lfuel entering the opening'll' become mixed and W pass from fthe opening 11pm-(to :the 'tube`13"".OO
Where further and more complete mixture of the air and fuel is effected.
It is obvious that part of the invention may be used Without the Who-le. A modificationv omitting the valve, jacket and the by-pass, is shown in Fig. 8, in Which the same reference numerals are appliedv as in the embodiment illustrated by the other figures. Its operation Will be understood from the preceding description. 1
v It is also obvious that changes other than those mentioned may be made in the details of construction Within they scope of the appendpassage in said 'second member to said discharge passage, a tube secured to said third member and communicating' With said discharge passage, a jacket surrounding` said tube 'and spaced therefrom, means forming a passage for conducting air from said vair passage in said first member into said space, and
