This invention relates to improvements in liquid spraying devices of the type in which liquid is drawn from a source of supply and is atomized by a. blast of air, or other gas,
palssing across the delivery end of a discharge tu e.
The invention will be fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in
which latter Fig. 1 is a longitudinal sectional view through a spraying device embodying the improvements Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the spraying device;
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectlonal view through the discharge tube taken along the line IIIIII of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a side elevational view of the discharge tube; and
Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view taken along the lines VV and VIVI of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, reference numeral 1 designates a reservoir adapted to con tain liquid tobe atomized. A gas compressor is associated with the reservoir. The gas compressor comprises a cylinder 2 having a head 3 which is provided with a plurality of discharge openings 4 for the gas which is compressed within the cylinder. Compression of gas, such as air, is efi'ected by a piston composed of a piston rod 5 to which is secured a piston head composed of plates 6 and washer 7 Liquid is drawn from the con- 5 tainer through a discharge tube into position to be struck by and atomized by the blast of air. The discharge tube is of the multiple or composite type and comprises spaced tubes 9 and 10 each of which has a delivery end 0 disposed in position to deliver licuid in front of the openings 4 where it can be struck and atomized by the blast of gas issuing from the openings. The other ends of the tubes open into the reservoir 1 below the normal level 46 of liquid in the reservoir. A tubular shell 11 is disposed between the spaced tubes 9 and 10 and unites the tubes to form a unitary structure. The shell and tubes can be pressed opens toward the delivery end of the dis- 1 charge tube. The shell is provided with an opening 14 which opens into the bottom of the cup. The discharge tube with the cup 13 form a unit which is'securedrigidly, preferably to the container alone and at its place of entrance intothe container.
Under some conditions of operation, a portion of the atomized liquid may accumulate upon the outsideof, and flow down, the exterior surface of the discharge tube. The cup 13 collects this liquid and directs it through opening 14 into the return drain 11 of the discharge tube WhlCl'l returns it to the reservolr.
Various changes may be made within the scope of the appended claims, in which it is desired to claim all novelty inherent in the invention as broadly as the prior art permits. I
I claim:
1. As an article of manufacture, a composite discharge tube comprising spaced tubes each having a delivery end, a tubular shell the walls of which connect the tubes,
and a cup the bottom of which has closed connection with the tubes and shell, the shell opening into the lower portion of the cup.
' 2. As an article of manufacture, a composite discharge tube comprising spaced tubes each having a delivery end, a tubular" shell the walls of which connect the tubes, and a cup encircling the tubes and shell, the bottom of the cup having closed connection withthe tubes and shell and opening toward- 9 ends of the tubes,the shell the delivery ends of the tubes, the shell opening into the lower portion of the cup.
3. As an article of manufacture, a composite discharge tube comprising spaced tubes each having a, delivery end, a tubular shell the Walls of Which connect a portion of the tubes, a cup the bottom of which has closed connection with the tubes and shell, the cup opening toward'the delivery ends of the tubes, and a Web connecting the upper openingintothe lowerp'ortionofthe cup.
