Filed Aug. 21, 1951 m T R w @m 8 O O O 0 1 m m T R w E RD C mm INVENTOR 6 ATTORNEY Patented Aug. 2, 1932 llNITED STATES" JOSEPH P. BARRON, OF KNOXVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
GOMIBINED' TRAFFIC INDICATOR AND ADVERTISING DEVICE Application filed August 21, 1931.
This invention relates to traific lights and has for the primary object, the provision of means mounted on a traffic light casing or housing for the purpose of permitting the various colored lights to be more readily distinguished from each other and which provides a very eificient means on which advertisements may be displayed.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a combined traflic indicator and advertising device which will be simple, durable and eiiicient and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
WVith these and other objects in view, this invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a more complete understanding of my invention, reference is to behad to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation illustrating a combined traffic indicator and advertising device constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view illustrating the same.
Figure 3 is a plan view illustrating one of the panels before being applied to the signal casing. I
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates the conventional type of signal casing used for the purpose of directing traffic at street intersections and as shown in Figure 1 may be supported by a post 2 or "any other suitable supporting means. The direction signal above described is adapted to display diiferent colored signals at o posite sides thereof and to render these signals more distinguishable, panels 3 are provided. Each of the panels is constructed from a strip of metal having its ends rounded and provided with an opening 1 intermediate its ends to be placed over the lens holder of the trafiic signal. The panel is riveted or otherwise secured to the casing and is bent on the dotted lines as shown in Figure 8 to extend angularly to the side faces of the casing and in alignment with the corners of the casing.
Serial No. 558,576.
The panels maybe colored to agree with the color of lights associated therewith to render the signals more exting'uishable and the panels may have printed, painted, or otherwise applied thereto advertisements so that the traffic signal besides giving signals will provide an efiicient means for displaying advertising matter.
The walls of the signal casing above and below the panels 3 may have names or characters applied thereto and the walls of said casing are preferably coated black so that the different colored panels and signal lights will be more easily read or noticed.
The rounded portions at the top and bottomv of the. signal casing are the ends of the vertical walls of said casing.
I While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is: I
In combination with a traflic signal casing having different colored signals at the sides thereof and having the sides coated a dark color, a plurality of panels secured to the opposite sides of the casing and each having an opening registering with the signals, said panels colored in accordance with the'color of the signals and each panel bent angularly to provide portions projecting outwardly from the casing and in substantial alignment with the corners of said casing, said portions adapted to have advertisements applied thereto.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JOSEPH P. BARRON.
