Description
Filed Oct. l0. l930 Patented .uly 12, 1.932
UNITED STATES CARL WINKLER, F BERN, SWITZERLAND MATRIX MOLDING PRESS Application filed October 10, 1930, Serial No. 487,766, and in Germany October 23, 1929.
Matrix molding presses are known in which the pressing surface is moved by toggle levers having an inner or outer knee-joint.
According to the present invention there are arranged in the gearing between the source of power, for example motor, and the crank .by which toggle levers are moved, noncircular toothed discs by which the pressing surface is moved with the greatest gear at the inoment of maximum pressure.
By the invention it is rendered possible, either to increase the actual molding pressure without increasing the time required for each molding operation, or to use a motor having less power.
In the drawing illustrating the invention by way of example:
Fig. l is a side elevation of the press and Fig. 2 a plan partly in section.
By the electric motor a are driven through the agency of the clutch Z), worm c, wormwheel d and spur-wheels e, f, g the large spur-wheel h keyed on the shaft z'. On this shaft sits a toothed elliptical wheel la which drives a second elliptical wheel m on the shaft Z by which the toggle levers n, o are moved by means of the crank p and connecting rod g.
The lower vtoggle lever 0 is seated in side bars 1 that carry the press-head s and move it up and down.
The elliptical wheels c, m describe the 'same number of revolutions as the spurwheel 71, but alter their relative gear proportion during each revolution in such a way that the press-head, during its first idle stroke, is moved quickly, but moves gradually slower towards the end of its stroke. At the moment of maximum pressure Fig. l) the shortest radius. of the elliptical wheel c is opposite the longest radius of the elliptical wheel m, so that the press head will eX- ercise a correspondingly increased pressure.
l/Vhat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is when the moment of maximum pressure is reached.
In testimony thereof I have signed my name to this specification.
CARL WINKLER.
