Description

Patented July 12, 1932 team JOHN AJEMIAN, or nn'rnorr, M CHIGAN cuurarnnon counter.
Application filed June 15, 1929, Serial noisrinsen Renewed November 26, 1931.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a curtain rod cornice-adapted for use on windows to provide a cornice It is an object of thepresent invention to provide a device of this class which will be simple in structure, econonncal of manufacture and highly efficient in use.
Another object of the invention is the provision in a device of this kind'of a cornice having swingable end sections whereby the cornice may be adjusted to accommodate windows of various widths.
Another object of the invention is the provision of adjusting means for adjusting the cornice to accommodate various widths and for locking the cornice in position for use on windows of various widths. 4
Another object of the invention is the provision of rod engaging and supporting members adapted for use at various positions of adjustment of the cornice.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement ofparts hereinafter deof F1g 1 t Fig. 5 is asectional View taken on l1ne 5-5 bf Fig. 3.
The invention comprises a front plate 9 hingedly mounted on the opposite ends of which are end sections 10 and 11. Mounted on the front plate 9 is an adjusting retainer 13 through which extends a bolt 14.- having a nut 15 threaded thereon, this bolt being projected through an elongated slot 16 formed in the plate 13 and through the armor brace. 17 which pivotally connects to the Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on line 4- end piece 11. '1 The same arrangement is adopted'for both ends. By loosening the nut 15 the end pieces 11 and 12 may be moved to the desired an ularity relatively to the front plate 950 as to extend or reduce the width of the device depending upon the FA F 'I'C EY I width of the window or windows with which" used. Mounted on the end pieces 10 and 11 pivotally are retainers 18 provided with slots and openings forthe reception of the trunnion 19 of the shade roller 20 for the shade 20. Formed on the inner surface of the front plate 9 and the end pieces 10 and 11 are spaced grooves 21 and 22 in which the folded v or 1' ends of the drapes 23 and curtains 24c may be engaged and held in position by the rods or fillers 25, which are held in position by the clamping member 26. A spacing block 27 is shown mounted on the medial line of the front plate 9 and at opposite sides of the spacing block 27 are mounted the retainers 18, thus arranging the device for use with double windows.
.VVith adevice constructed in this manner,
the mounting of the curtain rods and drape rods may be easily and quickly effected without defacing the building or window casing and at the same time an attractive and pleasing appearance presented as the outer sur face of the plate 9 and the end pieces 10 and 11 may be suitably ornamented. Furthermore, by the adjustable features, the device is adapted for universal use. 7
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of my'invention, I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details of structure shown but desire to avail myselfof such variations and modifications as come withinthe scope of the appended claims.
' Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters' Patent isz" I .1. A curtain rod cornice of the class described: a front plate having on itsrear face a .pairof para'llel longitudinally extending. grooves formed therein for thereception of fabric supported thereon; a filler for en'- gaging in each of said grooves and locking the fabric in position; and common means for locking each of said fillers in looking position. 2. A cornice of the class described, comprising: a front plate; end sections, each hingedly connected to one end'of said front plate; means for adjustingthe angularity of saidend sections to said front plate; a retainer swingably mount d onthe inner surface of each of said end sections; a, spacing block projecting rearwardly from the rear face of said front plate; and a retainer" mounted on opposite faces of said spacing block.
In testimony whereof I have signed the foregoing specification;
JOHN AJEMIAN.
