SUCTION CUP FOR ARTIFICIAL TEETH Filed May 31, 1950 .HZH.FriesZ' I I 4 abto mwqo I Patented July 1932 HARRY n.2nmsr, or LoUnoivv ILLE, joHIo t SUCTION-CUP: Fon Ammonia rEE'rfi Application filed May 31, 1530. s er ial lfof4585 4 This invention relates to artificial teeth the reception of the buttonland suction cup,
and more particularly to suction cups for preventing loosening ofthe same,. of that general type described inlmy former Patent 5 No. 912,977., dated February 16, 1909.
sues of the mouth.
An object of the present invention is to provide a novel suction cup in which the rivet or button which secures the suction cup to the plate will be prevented from touching the tis- A still further object is to provide a suction cup in which the button will be formed with a relatively short neck and the rubber cup will be so formed as to present an annular rim within which the head of the" button is countersunk when the cup isunder compression, these two features of construction .peri mitting of a relatively thin denture or plate being employed and at the same time positively preventing the head of the button from contact with the mouth.
With the above and otherobjects in view the invention consistsin certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it
being understood that various modifications of the may be resorted to within the, scope appended claim without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any ofthe advantagesof the invention. p
' In the accompanying part of this specification:
' Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the upper denture or plate equipped with my improved suction cup, r
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view through the cup and plate greatly enlarged and showing the cup in normal position, I r L Fig; 3 isa cross sectionalview similar to Fig. 2 but showing the cup under 'compression, and a g Fig. 4: is a detail plan .view of thecup Referringnow to the drawing 1n which like characters of reference designate similar parts in the various views, 10 designates an artificial denture or plate, that for an uper set ofartificial teeth being illustrated,although it is to be understood that my mvention is equally applicableto lowerplates.
The plate drawing forming V 10 is formed witha recess 11 for and. the button in the present einbvodiment'is composed of a slngle piece of aluminum or 7 Q der tojs ecurely hold tlie button'to the plate;
The buttonisalso formed with an integral hollow neck 1d and adisk head .15. The materialof the plate'passes into the neck and 1 extends to the underneath face of the head and assists in rigidly'securing the button to 3 the plate.
of soft strong resilientrubber and is molded with a center opening 17 which is stretched-1 .over the neck 14 and secures the cup to the button, and is also molded with an upstand ing annular portion or rim 18 ,which' extends beyond the head of the button when the suction cupis .under compression as shown in Fig. 3 and when the cup is not under icompression, as shownin'Fig. 2. This rim 18 ex- Thesuction cup 16 -is preferably f fiidfl tends beyond the plane of'the head of the button so that the button head is virtually counter-sunk in the rim and consequently whenthe rim contacts withthe tissues ofthe mouth no partof the headcan touch and injure the tissues. The skirt or that portion of I g the suction cup disposed outside of the annular rim, as best shown in Fig. 3, is substani g. f
tiallyflattened and lies at anangle to the'an-Y nular'p'ortion or rim 18. The skirt is receiv-. ableinthe above mentioned recess ll and I forms a fir'manchoragefor the. plate-in the .mouthfif j I flinpractice it has been found that. by'con- .l

cup and button.positivelyprevent loosening mouth without requiring of the plate in the V I thick plate,- and conse the use of the usual quently the plate itself may .be' much thin;
ner and flighterfthan. hitherto. Theextreme l thinness and lightness .of the platein usehas been found to improve the quality ofspee'ch of the wearer in contrast to the use of thick [plates which distort the voice. y 7 My invention may be characterized by the 7 use of a rivet or'button with a short neck over which the center perforation of the suction cup is stretched, while the cup itself is so i 7 formed that the material of the cup extends beyond the plane of the head of the button in an annular rim which engages the tissues of'the mouth leaving the head counter-sunk in said rim.
Having this described the invention, It eclaim: V
A securing device for artificial denture or plates comprising a button having a base adapted vto be embedded in the material of the plate and having a short neck and a head,
and a rubber suction cup molded with a center opening receiving said neck and with an upstanding annular portion beyond said head when'the cupis compressed and when the cup "is not compressed, the outer, portion ofthe cup being substantially flattened and lying at anangle to the annular'portion. In testimony whereof I aliix my signature.
