The present invention has to do with a ber. Into this member, there telescopes one packing and display container or box and remember later to be described and thereover, lates particularly to the arrangement and there telescopes a cover 12 which has ends and structure of parts whereby two types of mersides 13 which overlay the ends and sides 11 chandise may be displayed in a single carton, of the bottom 10. 1 improved device for the display of different Within the member is a filler or spacer 60 types of merchandise in a single packing member formed from the blank 15.v Said container, an unique package for confections blank has a central section 16 extending of different characteristics, and a novel arfrom end to end and around which there are rangement for a merchandising container. flaps or wings 17. One of said die cuts may coincide telescoping member or section 10 having up with score 18 between member 16 and ends right sides and ends 11. Such member is a 17 Thus the U-shaped member 22 may be conventional shallow telescoping box memarticulated downwardly and arranged paral lel to the sides 17. The magnitude of the member 22 is such that it exactly coincides with the height of the sides 17 and has an under straight edge parallel to the top surface of member 10.
A bridge of material 25 is left between each of the four apertures in member 16. Said apertures at one side of the sheet 16 are parallel with the other two apertures at the other'side thereof but are reversed in respect thereto.
The member 15, in the form described, i. e., with wings 17 and tabs 22 folded downwardly, is adapted to be inserted into the member with the wings 17 and the wings 22 in parallelism. The member is thus provided with edge and center support and will not cave in under the normal weight of confections displayed thereon.
Over the central portion of blank 15, i. e., section 16, there is disposed a generally rectangular member of sheet material which has parallel straight end edges 31, and side edges 32, each having alignedseries of serrations; At the center of the member 30 and between aligned series of serrations 32, there are extensions 33 which terminate in blunt ends, which extensions 33 register with a portion of the bridges 25. Between the extensions 3'3 and the end edges 31, the serrations 32 are complemental to and correspond and register with the serrations 19 on the margin of the section 16. The member 30 normally is assembled with member 15 without adhesive but, of course, can be adhesively applied thereto, when desired. Between serrations l9 and 32, there is a space to receive merchandise, later to be described.
At the end of the device, there may be supplied a display card 35 which has a section 36 articulated for seating beneath the member 15 and to rest upon the bottom member 10. Next above the section 36 is a section 37 which in the assembled package remains upright at all times. Depending therefrom is a section 38 upon which there may be advertising matter. Said section 38 is folded over the merchandise in the container. now to be described and is held down by the cover 12 while the package is not in use, but which section 38 stands upright when the goods are on display or are on sale. Any suitable form of articulation may separate the sections 36 and 37 and the sections 37 and 38.
Between the serrations 32 on the member 30 and the marginal serrations 19 in the member 16, ordinarily two cylindrical packages of merchandise are placed, there being four serrated compartments in the present instance for five double rows of such merchandise. Such merchandise packages 40 have a portion of the periphery of the outside members thereof situated within the curved portion of the marginal serrations 19, the points of such serrations 19 separating adjacent packages. A similar row of packages is arranged with the teeth 32 separating packages one from another, while the curved body portions of the merchandise packages are disposed intermediate such teeth 32.
In the present instance forty packages of cylindrical merchandise may be safely disposedin the device, and are held upright therein by the toothed members 19 and 32 just described. Intermediate the members lO held upright by the means described, there is a platform, which platform has as its top member the toothed rectangular element 30.
Upon said spacer element 30 there may now be disposed merchandise possessing in its finished form a parallelepiped configuration such as packages 41 shown in the drawing. Such merchandise may extend the full length of the said member 30 which is bounded at' the back by the'display card 35, and at the front by a removable member 50.
When the package is on display, no support is required at the other end of the packa e, thus leaving exposed to view a'merehandise display comprising at each side two rows of cylindrical pieces -10 of merchandise, the top end of which does not reach to the top layer of the parallelepiped packages 11 disposed therebetween. The advertising material on the cylindrical package 40 is preferably upon the upper half thereof, so that such material is plainly visibleto a prospective purchaser. The cylindrical merchandise packages 40 do not materially interfere with full vision of the parallelepiped packages 41 disposed therebetween, so that in the display package described there is an arrangement of merchandise of two entirely different characteristics which attracts the eye of the pro-' spective purchaser, the display of one portion of the merchandise not interfering with full vision of the other, but accentuating it, although one part of the merchandise is adapted to provide a support for the other part of the merchandise.
During packing, it is usual and custommy to supply at the center of the package the temporary packing element 50, in the present instance comprising a sheet of pasteboard or the like having extensions 51 projecting therefrom. This elen'ient could be a truly rectangular sheet, but experience teaches that if the sheet has a V-shaped opening between the extensions 14 the retailer will quickly understand that it is to be removed as soon as possible. If the merchant does not understand that the member 50 may be removed, the V-shaped opening between the eX- tensions 51 permits of a substantially complete visualization of the merchandise '41 adjacent thereto and permits of such merchandise being readily removed without any danger of having the display thereof upset by a careless clerk or self-serving individualfi The central packages 41 are removed in any desired order as they are sold. The removal of one package at a time does not in any way disturb the general appearance of the central display. If such central display loses its orderliness, it is a simple matter to rearrange the packages 41.
The cylindrical packages may be removed in any order. The removal of a member does not totally destroy the effectiveness of the member paired therewith to support the merchandise. The size of the opening in which the two cylinders 40 are disposed is such that even if one cylinder is removed and the other is knocked over, the knocked over member will not fall flat, but on the contrary will remain substantially upright. If it in clines outwardly, the bottom end rests against the wing 22 with the body portion against a marginal serration 19 of the member 16. Should a member 40 incline inwardly, the body thereof will rest against the adjacent packages 41. Thus the cylindrical merchandise 40 is maintained in upright or substantially upright position at all times.
The device has the advantage of combining highly eiiicient packaging for two types of merchandise plus an attractive display for such merchandise when the package is opened. It is in. condition for immediate disposition upon a counter, showcase, or shelf without unpacking or repacking.
I claim:
