This invention relates to display card holders and has for one of its objects to provide a readily attachable and detachable auxiliary frame for a well known type of holder where- 5 by one or more auxiliary cards may be displayed in connection with the principal card.

A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the class described which will be simple in construction, comparatively in- 10 expensive to manufacture and more efiicient in use than those which have been heretofore proposed.

WVith the above and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds,

the invention consists in the novel details of construction and combinations of parts more fully hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the accompanying drawing 20 forming a part of this specification in which like reference characters designate like parts in all the views Figure 1 is an elevational View of a typical display card holder showing one of the 25 auxiliary frames constituting the present invention in place thereon and a similar attachment about to be connected to the first mentioned frame;

The main display card frame shown in Figure 1 comprises a base 10 carrying an upright tubular standard 11 in which is adjustably mounted by means of the set screw 12 the rod or stem 13 which carries the substantially rectangular frame 14. The said frame com- 1931. Serial No. 552,513.

prises a pair of spaced tubular uprights 15 rigidly connected together by the horizontal members 16 and receives the main display card 17 as disclosed in my prior Patent No. 1,798,564 dated March 31, 1931, entitled Display card holder.

The attachment constituting the present invention comprises a pair of spaced tubular uprights 18 which are provided with longitudinal slots 19 extending through the walls thereof as clearly shown in Figures 2 to 6 inclusive. The said uprights 18 are rigidly connected together in spaced relation by a transverse member 20 which is here shown as comprising a strip of metal reversely bent upon itself to provide the looped ends 21 connccted by the spaced transverse webs 22. The ends of the said strip may be welded or otherwise secured together as at 23 and the looped ends 21 embrace and are rigidly secured, as by welding or brazing, to the uprights 18, preferably at or adjacent the upper ends of the said uprights. The slots 19 of the uprights are aligned with the space 24 between the transverse webs 22 so that the auxiliary display card 25 may be inserted in the holder by passing it between the spaced webs 22, its lateral. edges entering the slots 19 as indicated in Figures 2 and 3.

In the lower end of the uprights 18 there is inserted and rigidly secured the sleeves 26 which are also preferably slotted as at 27, such slots being arranged in alignment with the slots 19. The lower portions 28 of the said sleeves may be slightly tapered as clearly shown in Figures 2, 3 and l to facilitate the introduction of the sleeves into the open upper ends of the uprights 15 of the main card frame as indicated in Figure 1. In other words the said sleeves 26 constitute reduced extensions or dowels on the lower ends of the uprights 18 which are receivable in the tubular uprights 15 of the main frame whereby the attachments may be readily attached to and detached from the said main frame.

The sleeves 26 may be quickly and efficiently formed from solid rods upon screw inachines, and are preferably provided with card rests 29 which, as shown in Figures 2, 3 and 4, may take the form of integral webs or lbs ' 15 of the main frame.

In lieu of the fabricated construction of the reduced extensions just described they may of course, be formed integrally by swag ing the lower ends of the uprights 18 to reduce the same, as indicated in Figure 6. In

this case the card rests 29 may take the form of integral inturned tongues which are stamped or otherwise formed in th'e reduced lower'ends 26 and-bent at substantially right angles thereto across the slots 19, as will be readily understood from the said figure.

It will also be obvious that instead of the slotted tubular members shown for the uprights 15 and 18, conventional channel shaped stockmay be employed if desired As illustrated in Figure 1' any number of these'auxiliary frames may be employed since thereduced extensions 26 or 26 may be readily inserted in the open upper ends of the attachment uprights 18 in the same manner as in'thecorresponding ends of the uprights It thus results that any desired number of auxiliary cards such as 25 may be displaced in connection with the main card 17, and this is of advantage when itis desired thatthe auxiliary cards may be readily changed from time'to time without changing the main card 17.

Itis obvious that those skilled in the art may vary the details of construction as well as the precise arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention,

andtherefore it is not wished to belimited to the above disclosure except as may be required by the claims.

\Vhat is claimed is:

1. An auxiliary card holder for display card frames, comprising a pair of channeled uprights for receiving: the lateral edges of a card and a'transverse member secured thereto to'maintain them in'spaced relation, each upright having. a longitudinal extension for detacliable' connection with the main card frame, and being also provided with a rest for supporting the auxiliary card.

2. An auxiliary card holder for display card frames, comprising. a pair of channeled uprights for receiving the lateral edges of a card and a transverse member rigidly secured to oneend thereof to maintain them in spaced relation, the other end of each upright having a reduced longitudinal extension for detachable connection with the main card frame, and'being also provided" with a rest for supporting the auxiliary card.

3; An auxiliar card holding attachment for display card rames,comprising a pair-of slotted uprights for receiving the lateral edges of a card, and a transverse member rigidly secured to one end thereof to maintain them in spaced relation, the other end of each upright having a reduced extension for frictional engagement in a socket of the main card frame, said extensions'being provided with rests extending transversely of the slots in the uprights for engagement by the lower edge of the card.

4; An auxiliary card'holdiug attachment for display card frames, comprising a pair of uprights each provided with a longitudinal slot for receiving. the lateral edges of a card; a transverse member rigidly secured to said uprights to maintain them in spacedrelation; a sleeve secured to one endof each upright to p'rovidean extension for detachable connection with a complementary portion of the main card frame; and card restscarried by said sleeves for engagement by the lower edge of the card to'support the same.

5. An auxiliary card holding attachment for display card frames, comprising apair of tubular uprights each provided'with a lon itudinal slot for receiving the lateral edges of a card; a transverse member rigidly secured to said uprights to maintain them in spaced relation; a sleeve inserted in and secured to one end of each tubular upright to provide a reduced'extension for frictional engagement in a complementary socket of the main card frame; and card rests within said sleeves for engagement by the lower edge of the card to support the same.

6. An auxiliary card holding attachment for display card frames, comprisinga pair of tubular uprights each provided with a longitudinal slot for receiving the lateral edges of a card, and a transverse member rigidly secured to said uprights to maintain themin spaced relation, one end'of each up right having an integral reduced extension for detachable connection with a' complementary portion of themain card frame, and each extension beingprovided witlr an inturned integral tongue upon which the'lower ed e of the card may rest.
