Description

June 14, 1932. A. F. TURANO GOLF BALL CARRIER Filed Feb. 27, 1950 lllllllllll.
A llorney Patented June 14 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE .ADOLPHUS F. TURANO, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
GOLF BALL CARRIER Application filed February 27, 1930. Serial No. 431,793.
The present invention relates to carriers for golf balls and consists essentially of a container of leather or other flexible material suitable for conforming to the body of a person provided with belt attaching strap so that a supply of golf balls may be conveniently carried by a person in such a position as to not interfere with the movement of a player while executing a golf stroke.
One of the important objects of the pres ent invention is to provide a container of this character having an opening in one side with a closure fastener of conventional construction so that access to the interior of the container may be had for removing one or more 1 end is attached to the closure fastener for movement therewith into open or closed position so that the strip of material may seat within the opening over the fastener to protect the same and further to improve the appearance of the side of the container provided with the opening.
An additional object is to provide a container of this character of a simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages will become apparent during the course of the following descri ti-on.
In t e accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals indicate like parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 is a front elevational View with part of the cover strip for the opening broken away,
Figure 2 is a rear elevational view showing the belt attaching strap for the container,
Figure 3is an end elevational view,
generally at 5 and preferably made of to leather or other soft flexible material so that the same may readily conform to the contour of the body of the wearer. The container is of a substantially closed tubular construction which may be formed of four coextensive strips of material to form the side walls 6 having their meeting edges secured by threads 7.
The container thus constructed will be of substantially square shaped formation in cross 74;
section as clearly illustrated in Figures 3 and 4 of the drawing. It is to be understood however, that the container may be formed round in cross section or any other desired shape suitable for holding one or more golf balls 8.
At one side of the container a plurality of belt attaching straps 9 are provided at spaced intervals for attaching the container to the belt of a person, one end of the strap 9 being so releasably secured by a snap fastener 10 or the like.
At the opposite side of the container an opening 11 is formed by cutting out a relatively long thin strip of material 12 from the side of the container and leaving one end of the strip unsevered as shown at 13. The edges of the opening are provided with a conventional type of closure fastener preferably of the well known zipper type indicated at 14, the fastener being provided with the usual operating handle 15.
The free end of the strip 12 is secured to the operating handle 15 for movement with the handle when the same is moved into its rial provided with the fastener so as to cover the same and thus protect the fastener as well as to improve the appearance of the side of the container by hiding the fastener from view.
5 Adjacent one end of the container, at the side thereof provided with the opening, is secured a pocket 16 open at one end and provided with a closure flap 17 having a snap fastener 18 for securing the flap in closed position. The front wall 19 of the pocket is preferably of an increased width at its top or open end to accommodate a number of golf tees which may be carried in the pocket.
It is obvious that various changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what 20 I claim as new is:
1. An elongated closed container of flexible material for partly encircling the body of a person, said container having a strip of material partly cut therefrom along one side thereof to provide an opening, the strip of material being unsevered at one end, a closure fastener having one element movable longitudinally of the opening, and having the free end of the material attached thereto for seating the strip within the opening when the fastener is closed and body attaching means for the container.
2. An elongated closed container of flexible material for partly encircling the body of a person, said container having a strip of material partly cut therefrom along one side thereof to provide an opening, the strip of material being unsevered at one end, a closure fastener having one element movable longitudinally of the opening, and having the free end of the material attached thereto for seating the strip within the opening when the fastener is closed, and belt attaching straps carried by the container.
3. A closed container having at least one side thereof formed of bendable material and slit on two parallel lines and a transverse line adjacent one end of the parallel lines to provide an opening, and a strip integral at one end with said side adjacent one end of said opening; and a closure fastener having one element thereof carried by the free end of the strip and movable longitudinally of the opening to seat the strip within the opening when the closure is closed.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
