Description

J F. ALLISON DISPLAY DEVICE June 7, 1932.
Filed Nov. 19, 1930 Patented June 7, 1932 UNETED STAES PATENT QFFEOE JAMES F. ALLISON, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGN OR TO FREEMAN-DAUGHA- DAY COMPANY, A CORPORATION OF MASSACHUSETTS DISPLAY DEVICE Application filed November 19, 1930. Serial No. 496,707.
This invention relates to a display device, and has for its object to provide a handsome and attractive display of the manner of using or wearing a collar holder or like article.
Another object of this invention is the simulation of a collar and necktie as worn with a collar holder in position thereon to suggest and illustrate the use which is made of the same.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a collar and necktie which will be raised and will stand out from the background upon which it is mounted to better attract the eye of a prospective purchaser and to provide a structure upon which a collar holder may be mounted to illustrate the actual use of the same.
A further object of this invention is to provide a display for a collar holder which will attract the attention of a prospective buyer and also provide a place for advertising and aplace for mounting collar holders thereon for sale.
A still further object of this invention is the provision of a simple construction which may be formed by blanking the same from sheet stock in suitable shape and folding one of the parts upon another.
With these and other objects and advantageous features in view, the invention consists of a novel arrangement of parts more fully disclosed in the detailed description following, in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, and more particularly set forth in the appended claims.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the finished device showing collar holders as mounted thereon;
Fig. 2 is a central section on line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Fig. 3 is a plan view of a blank from which the structure is formed.
In the merchandising of articles of jewelry such as collar holders or the like, it is desirable to display the same in an attractive manner to create an interest in the item which is. offered for sale and suggest its use to a prospective customer, and to also provide means by which the actual article which is to be sold may be mounted upon or stored in the device for convenient distribution; and the following is a detailed description of the present embodiment of this invention, illustrating the preferred means by which these advantageous results may be accomplished.
With reference to the drawing, Figure 3 illustrates the first step in cutting the blank from sheet stock, the same consisting of a base or back member 10 with a portion 11 generally V-shaped extending beyond the edge 12 thereof and shaped to simulate a collar, with a portion 13'eXtending beyond the apex of the V and itself shaped to simulate a necktie. The collar and necktie portions 11 and 13 are folded along the dotted lines 12 to overlie the base 10, as illustrated in Figures l and 2, and are notched as at 14: to form a break or line of demarkation between the collar and necktie and to also serve the purpose of permitting a collar holder 15 to be placed beneath the necktie, and grip the flaps 16 of the collar on the opposite surfaces thereof for maintaining the collar holder in position. A slot 17 is provided in the base 10 into which the end 18 of the tie may be inserted for maintaining the portion 11, 13 in desired position.
As the collar is a separate piece of stock overlying the base 10, the same stands out to better catch the eye and be more attractive, and by the positioning of the collar holder beneath the tie, the same will be flexed outwardly at 19 to stand out from the collar, the same as an actual necktie will often stand out beyond the collar and thus the display will present an attractive visual appearance to the eye of the observer.
In the display, the collar will be white, the necktie of some appropriate fashionable color or shade, and the base may be colored to simulate a shirt or may have markings to simulate a shirt as observed through the opening in the coat or vest or any other configuration which is appropriate in use, it being of course understood that various appropriate color combination may be used, as desired.
The base between the legs of the V-shaped overlying portion 20 may be provided with advertising matter or marking to distinguish the device, while the lower portion of the base is provided with spaced slots 21 and 22 for the reception of cards 23 upon which collar holders 24 are mounted that the same may be detached from the display card and delivered to the purchaser. These cards 23 are provided with tabs 25 to be inserted in the pairs of slots 21 and 22 for suitable mounting on the device, or the articles may be mounted in any other desirable manner for convenient distribution.
The device may be supported in inclined position, as illustrated in Figure 2, in the form of an easel by providing a suitable support 26 hinged to the back of the base as at 27 and 28 that the card may stand upon any desired surface and be self-supportin lVhile I have described certain construc tion forms which embody the principles of my invention, it is obvious that other desired changes in arrangement may be made within the spirit and the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A display device formed of sheet stock comprising a base portion and a portion overlying said base and secured to the base at its upper edge to extend over the front face thereof, said overlying portion being shaped to simulate a collar and necktie, and means permitting mounting a collar holder thereon.
2. A display device formed of sheet stock comprising a base portion and a portion overlying said base and folded downwardly from the upper eege of the base to extend over the front face thereof, said overlying portion being in the shape of a V to simulate a collar and having a depending portion in the shape of a necktie depending therefrom.
3. A display device formed of sheet stock comprising a base portion and a portion overlying said base and secured to the base at its upper edge to extend over the front face thereof, said overlying portion shaped to simulate a collar at its upper portion and having a depending portion shaped to simulate a tie.
4. A display device formed of sheet stock comprising a base portion and a portion overlying said base and secured to the base at its upper edge to extend Over the front face thereof, said overlying portion shaped to simulate a. collar at its upper portion and having a depending portion shaped to simlate a tie, said base portion having a slot therein into which said tie portion may extend to hold the same in position.
5. A display device comprising a base member, and an overlying member integral therewith and folded from an edge thereof, said overlying member being shaped to simulate a collar and necktie, said necktie being spaced from the edges of said collar for a portion of the length therealong to receive a collar holder on the edges of said collar and beneath said tie.
6. A display device comprising a member of sheet stock substantially rectangular in shape, and a generally V-shaped member over the face thereof with a portion extending downwardly from the apex of said V.
'Z. A display device comprising a member of sheet stock substantially rectangular in shape, and a generally V-shaped member over the face thereof with a portion extending downwardly from the apex of said V, and said base having a slot to receive said depending portion to maintain said member in position.
8. A display device comprising a member of sheet stock substantially rectangular in shape and an integral generally V-shaped member folded from its upper edge over the face thereof with a portion extending clownwardly from the apex of said V, and a slot to receive said depending portion to maintain said member in position.
9. A display device comprising a base member of imperforate sheet stock generally rectangular in shape, a if-shaped member integral with and folded from the spaced spread end portions of said J at the upper edge of said base member, said member simulating a collar, a depending portion from the general apex of said V simulating a necktie and notched at each of its sides at its junction with the V to provide a space to receive a collar holder in said notches and beneath said necktie portion.
10. A display device comprising a base member of imperforate sheet stock generally rectangular in shape, a V-shaped member integral with and folded from the spaced spread end portions of said V at the upper edge of said base member, said member simulating a collar, a depending portion from the general apex of said J simulating a necktie and notched at each of its sides at its junction with the V to provide a space to receive a collar holder on the collar member in said notches and beneath said necktie portion, and a slot in the base member to receive the end of said necktie portion, whereby the same is held in position on the base.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JAMES F. ALLISON.
