REVERSIBLE nIsrLAY nEvIoE Applicatiou filed Tune 9,
My invention relates to a device for use where it is desired to display, selectively, for observation, difierent display matter, as for example in the case of tank cars where itis' desired that a placard, or the like, display the information as to whether or not the tank is loaded or empty. My objects are to provide a device whereby matter may be displayed, selectively, by adjusting the member of the device, presenting such matter,.into different positions; to provide a simple and economical construction of such device and by which manipulation, to selectively display the difi erent display matter, may be effected quickly and readily and when manipulated to the desired be maintained in set position; and other objects as will be manifest from the following description;
-Referring to the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of a display device embodying my invention.
Figure 2 is an edge view thereof, and
Figure 3, a broken section taken at the line 3-3 on Fig. 1 and viewed in the direction of the arrows.
According to the illustrated embodiment of my invention the device comprises a bracket I 4 having oppositely'extending legs 5 and 6 at its opposite ends, the leg 5 being provided for attachment to a supporting structure as for example a tank car at any suitable place thereon.
The device also comprises a plate 7 forming opposite sides of which the matter to be selectively displayed, as for example the word loaded and empty as in the case of its use on a tank car, is presented, as for example by pasting thereon labels bearing the display matter.
The plate 7 at one end thereof is provided with a stud 8 shown as forming the terminal portion of a split-clip 9 the legs 01": which embrace an edge of the plate 7, the clip being secured to the plate by bolts 10. p
p The stud 8 which is formedat its outer end with an enlargement 11, shown as in the form of a ball, extends through an elongated slot 12 formed in a ledge-member 13 carried by the bracket 4, the enlargement 11 being of such is desired to reverse the i I While I have illustrated and described a V variously modified and altered 1930. size that it preventswithdrawal of the stud A CORPORATION oFwEs'r VIRGINIA 8 fromthe slot- 12, the plate 'Zthusbeing pivotally' associatedl with the. bracket and adaptedto be swung in a direction 'away'from the body-portion of the bracket to permit of the reversing of the plate? by 'rotatably adjustingit. V L The ledge-member 13 isshown as. formed of a strip of metal through an :end of which the slot 12 extends. 'The'strip is'secured at its other. end to the bracketby thebolts 15, its: slotted endpormain portion of the V tion,'after the introduction of the'stud 8 into,
the slot 12 closed against sliding of the stud 8therefrom. 3 1
Means are provided for holding the plate 7 in either ofitspositionsof rotatablead-i 113, being bent into' the shapeishown to render justment, these means, in the embodiment 1 shown, comprising a-spring-catch in the form of a flat spring strip l6 secured at oneend v,

Theedge of the plate 'Zadj'acent the "spring-catch contains, a, recess 19 ing of the plate laterally, the catch-forming projection 18 lapping t'he frontside ofthe plate? and holding it against swinging away from the bracket '4. As will be understood, the catch is adapted to be flexed intoa position for permitting the plate 7 tobe swung forwardly for rotation at its stud 8 when it' plate 7.
particular construction embodying myin-l deflected catch-forming prointo which the catch extends preventingtilt- I vention, I do-not wish to be understooda's intending to limit itthereto as the without, departing from. the spirit of myinvention. What I claim as new, and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is: 1
