H. E. KATZENMOYER PACKAGE BOX Filed April 16. 1930 gwumkoz H6073 E. fiaijelzmo er Patented May 17, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT [OFFICE HARRY E. KATZENMOYER, F ROSEDALE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO FISHER.
HOSIERY CO. INC., 01 READING, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION OF. PENNSYL- VANIA Application filed April 16,
The present invention pertains to the packaging of delicate articles'such as gauzy hosiery, and one of the salient objects of the invention is to provide a package for such articles which will protect the articles as they are being dispensed, and prevent the articles from rubbing against one another, or from being damaged while being removed from the box.
Hosiery is usually packed in pasteboard boxes containing say three pairs of stockings, but it is essential to make the box of sullicient height to carry a label that will be sufiiciently large to be seen from a distance by salespeople. In accordance with my in vention, a false bottom or platform is arranged within the ordinary box, so as to elevate the articles, and with this false bottom,
I combine partition sheets or flaps which separate and cover the stockings so as to prevent them from rubbing against one another,
and to prevent the operator, while moving one pair of stockings, from touching the pairs of stockings immediately below the removed pair.
Another object of the invention is to so combine a partition sheet with the false bottom as to provide two partitions in the box without pasting those partitions to the box.
With the foregoing objects outlined and with other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel features hereinafter described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
Referring to the drawings,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my improved package with one pair of hose therein, and
49 showing the partition flaps unfolded.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the false bottom. 7
Fig. 3 is an enlarged transverse vertical sectional view of the complete package with 5 three pairs of hose therein.
In the embodiment of the invention illus trated in the drawings, 4 designates the body of the box, which may be made of pasteboard and comprise a bottom 5, and upstanding 0 walls 6.
enemas 1930. Serial no. 444,676.
Extending across the interior of the bottom of the box, is-a partition sheet 7 of paraflin paper on the Y like, side portions 8 of which are upstanding and held against the side walls of the box by the depending side walls 9 of a false bottom 10- which is inserted into the box through the open top of the latter, and has its lower edges resting on the intermediate portion of the partition sheet 7.
From the portions 8 of the partition sheet, flaps 11 and12 extend upwardly and outwardly over-the side edges of the box body, as shown in Fig, 1, to allow a pair of hose 13 for example, to be'placed on top of the false bottom 10. I After this is done, the flap 1 1 is folded inwardly, parallel to the top of the falsebot'tom, so as to cover and protectthe hosiery '13. Then a second pair of stockings 14 is superposed on the partition flap 11, as shown in Fig. 3, and the flap 12 is folded in from the opposite side, so as to cover the hosiery 14.; Finally, a third pair of stockings 15 is placed on top ofthe flap 12, and for the purpose of covering the hose 15, a third flap 16 is folded inwardly on to the hose 15. g The last mentioned flap is also formed of paraffin paper or the like, and is pasted to the inner surface of one of the side walls of the box body, as indicated at 17.
The package is completed by the conventional pasteboard cover 18 which has depending walls 19 that telescope over the sides of the body of the box.
From the foregoing it will be understood that the flaps will separate the articles and cover the same, so as to prevent any damage which mightbe caused by one pair of stockings sliding on another. Furthermore, the
ski
use of the false bottom enables me to make the box of suflicient height to allow the usual label to be pasted on one of the depending Ill pair of stockings, will not touch or disturb the two lower pairs of stockings.
Afterwards, when another pair is shown, it is apparent that the second pair of hose 14 may be exhibited without handling, and if a sale is made, this pair may be removed and the box be closed, Without disturbing or touching thethird pair of hose 13.
S ch a P age v y a y ntegequs, f r use in connection with sheer silk ho'si'ery, as such hosiery is not only easily spotted; but is liable to be damaged by any rubbing orlhan v dling.
