The object of the invention is to provide a device for protecting the heel of hose, and more particularly to provide a device adapted to be worn in the heel portion of the shoe for protecting the heel of golf stockings.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a protector of the above mentioned character, which can be readily inserted in the heel of the shoe, which is inexpensive, will aid in increasing the life of the golf stocking, and which will be neat and attractive in appearance.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:

Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a heel portion of a shoe having my protector applied thereto.

Figure 2 is a plan view of the protector.

Figure 3 is a sectional View taken substantially on the line 33 of Figure 2.

Figure 4 is a plan view of the blank from which the protector is formed.

With reference more in detail to the drawings, it will be seen that my improved heel protector is cut or formed from a single blank of material 5 suitably out and shaped to provide a plate like pad portion 6 having side portions 7 rising from opposite edges thereof and connected at the rear of the pad by a curved portion 8. The sides 7 and rear end portion 8 at their upper edges are foldable on an imaginary line continuing from one to the other of the edges 5a of the blank 5 to provide a cuff 9 adapted to receive between it and the sides 7 and rear 8 corresponding portions of the shoe counter at the heel of the shoe for retaining the protector in position at the heel portion of the shoe. short slits 9 extending inwardly from the edges 5a so that when the protector is properly positioned within the heel of the shoe and the cuff 9 is folded over theouter face of the shoe counter there will be no upward pull io on the side forming portions 7 with the result that the bottom forming member 6 will rest properly on the bottom of the shoe and the side forming members 7 will rest in flat contact with the corresponding portions of the i6 counter.

From a study of Figure 4 it willbe also noted that the side forming portions 7 at their lower edges, that is at the edges 7a of the blank 5 are separated from the bottomoo forming member 6 by slips 7 extending inwardly from the said edges 7 a so that the lower portion of the sides 7 will be free to conform to the curvature of the counter as it approaches the bottom of the shoe heel.

i The part 6 of the blank 5 provides a top covering for a layer of felt 10, 10 and 6 thus providing a soft comfortable pad upon which the heel of the foot rests when the protector is inserted in the heel portion of the shoef lo.

Preferably, the material forming the blank 5 is of leather or soft kid while the turned down or cuff forming portion 9 may be suitably treated so as to render said portion sufliciently stiff asto function suitably for retain-- ing the protector in position within the heel of the shoe.

In actual practice, the device is placed in the heel portion of a conventional type of half shoe S with the pad 10 forming a cushion, upon which the heel of the foot rests and the sides 7 extend along opposite side portions of the shoe counter and the curved end portion conforms to the back of the shoe heel, the upper edge of the shoe counter being overlapped by the cuff or turn down portion 9.

When the protector is so positioned in the shoe it will be apparent that the heel portion of the stocking as for example the golf stocking will be protected against direct contact with the counter of the shoe and will thus prevent wearing of the heel of the hose not I only at the back of the heel but also at the sides of the heel.

To add to the comfort of the device, the pad 10 at its forward end is reduced in thickness or beveledas at 11 at a point of the pad which will be under the oscalcis bone vof the heel preventing the foot from pulling away from the heel of the shoe which results in extra wear at the point of contact of the hose. Of course, the forward edge of the pad 10 and cover portion 6 of the blank 5 will be suitably shaped dependent upon whether the pad is to be used with the right or left shoe, that is to say, the bottom forming member 6 at its forward end is reduced in width as it pro-' ceeds to said forward end from a point inwardly from said end and a side edge of the bottom forming portion Gas it proceeds from the wide portion of the bottom 6 to the exsaid side and end forming portions of the blank having relatively short slits extending inwardly from opposite lateral edges of the blank, and also having a marginal cuff forming also foldable on imaginary lines continu- I ing inwardly from the said inner ends of the said second named slits and transversing the cuff forming portion.

Even though I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible to changes, modifications and improvements coming within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:

1. As a new article of manufacture, a shoe attachment comprising a single blank of material presenting a bottom portion, opposed side portions, and a transversely curved end portion connecting the rear ends of the side portions; the upper marginal edges of the side and end portions being foldable on an imaginary line continuing from the forward end of one side portion to the corresponding end of the other side portion; the foldable marginal portion at opposite edges of the blank being separated from the side portions by short longitudinal slits extending inward- 1y from the said edges of the blank; and the side portions at the bottom edges thereof being separated from the bottom portions by relatively short slits extending inwardly from the edges of the blank constituting a said lower edge portion of said sides.

2.
