I IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-CHIMNEY CLEANERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 185,431, dated December 19, 1876; application filed August 30, 1876.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES GoLLINs, of Central City, county of Gilpin, State of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Chimney Cleaners, of which the following is a specification:

The object of my invention is to provide for an improved lamp-chimney cleaner which can be made larger and smaller instantaneously at will, so as to fit any lamp-chimney.

My invention consists in constructing lampchimney cleaners ofa globe or elongated ball of an elastic material, such as india-rubber, gutta-percha, &c., which can be blown out by aid ofa mouth-piece, in which a valve is inserted, so as to fit the'diti'erent sizes of lampchimneys, or other similar articles which cannot be taken apart and require to be cleaned on their inner sides. Over the globe or elongated ball I place a cylindrical cover of cotton, woolen, or linen, closed at the top and open at the bottom, which can be readily removed and cleaned when required.

In order to more fully describe my invention, I refer to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.

g g are two flanges on the handle, forming a groove, h, in which a string is embedded, and by aid of which the cover I is securely fastened over the globe A, and held to the handle B.

I am well aware that a patent was granted September 25, 1866, (and numbered 58,265,) to Levi Keiler for improvements in chimneycleaners, It is not my intention to interfere with any feature shown in this patent, and I therefore disclaim the same. I inflate the rubber vessel in a different manner, and keep it thus inflated as long as required. I have also a separate adjustable cover over the rubber vessel, without the aid of which the rubber vessel would soon be made useless. I rely upon these features as being the subjects of my claim. Y

Having thus described my invention, I desire to claim- A lamp-chimney cleaner, consisting of the elastic ball or globe A, with hollow handle B, valve 0, and groove h, in combination with the cover I, substantially as described.
