Description

April 5, 1932. c. F. SHUGRUE FASTENER FOR WI-NDQW SHADE PULLS Filed Nov, '7, 1929 (grape 402:9,
Patented Apr. 1932 UNITED STATES FASTENERFOR WINDOW SHADE PULIJS Application filed November This invention relates to a fastener for a window shade pull and has for its object to provide an attractive and efiicient fastening device by means of which the pull cord may 5 be secured to a window shade.
The invention consists in a fastener for a window shade pull as set forth in the following specification, and particularly as pointed out in the claims thereof.
In Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 represents a front elevation of afastener for a window shade pull embodying my invention, together with a portion of a window shade to which a pull cord is secured by means of said fastener.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the fastener.
Like numerals refer to like parts through- 21? out the several views of the drawings.
In the drawings, 5 represents a portion of a window shade of well known form and 6 is the usual hem that is provided at the lower edge of the window shade for the reception as of a stick 7 which constitutes a stiffening member for the bottom edge of the shade. A pull cord 8 of well known form is secured to the stick 7 by means of a fastener 9 which has embodied therein novel features of con- IW struction which constitute this invention.
The fastener 9 comprises a sleeve 10 provided at one end thereof with a laterally extending flange 11 which extends entirely around the periphery of the sleeve. Mounted at the opposite end of the sleeve 10 from the flange 11 is a cup shaped head portion 1.2 which may be constructed to embody therein any artistic design which may be desired. The central portion of the head 12 is recessed slightly at 13 upon the rear side thereof to facilitate the positioning of said head upon the end of the sleeve 10, and the head and sleeve may be securely fastened together in any suitable manner but preferably said members are fused together as by soldering,
brazing or welding.
Located within the sleeve 10 is a fastening member 1 1, preferably a screw, one end of which is securely fused to the rear surface of the head 12 in the same operation and at the 7, 1929. Serial No. 405,382.
same time that the sleeve10 isfastened to said head12, The screw '14: projectsfrom the head 12 through the sleeve'lO and out wardly beyond the flanged end thereofa suflicient distance so that the fastener may be attached to the stick 7 as illustrated in Fig. 2. The head 12 has a plurality of notches 15 formed in the edge portion thereof in such a manner that they will constitute a part of the ornamental design of the head portion. to The cord 8 extends around the sleeve 10 between the flange 11 and the rear surface of the head 12, being looped at 16 in a,well known manner.
From the sleeve 10 the cord 8 extends e5 downwardly through one of the notches 15 and preferably the notches are so spaced around the edge portion of the head 12 that when the fastener has been screwed into the stick 7 and the flange 11 has been clamped tightly against the hem portion 6 of the window shade, one of the notches 15 will be located at the under side of the fastener as illustrated in Fig. 1.
It is evident that the flange 11 may be elimi- .nated from the sleeve 10 if it is so desired without changing any of the functions performed by the fastener, and, furthermore, if it is so desired, the sleeve 10 may be permanently secured to the head 12, and the screw 14 88 may be separate therefrom, in which case the fastener is secured to the shade stick 7 with the head portion of the screw located at the front of the head 12 and with the screw projecting through said head and sleeve into said 83 stick, and this latter construction falls within the scope of certain of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A fastening device of the character described having, in combination, a sleeve of 90 uniform diameter, a head portion at one end of said sleeve and partially enclosing the same, and a screw within said sleeve, said sleeve and screw being fused to said head portion and the screw projecting through the sleeve and outwardly therefrom at the end thereof opposite the head portion.
2. A fastening device of the character described having,-in combination, a cylindrical sleeve provided with a laterally extending flange at one end thereof, a head portion at t the other end of said sleeve and partially enclosing the same, and a screw fused together with the sleeve to the head portion, said screw projecting throughthe sleeve and outwardly beyond the flanged end thereof.
3. A fastening device of the character described having, in combination, a cylindrical sleeve provided with a laterally extending flange at one end thereof, a head portion at the other end of said sleeve and partially errclosing the same and provided with notches in its edge portion, and a screw fused together with the sleeve to the head portion,
said screw projecting through the sleeve and outwardly beyond the flanged end thereof.
In testlmony whereof I have hereunto set my hand. p v CHARLES F. SHUGRUE.
