This invention relates to collar fasteners as used in retaining the forward ends or points of a collar in a desirable symmetrical position, conducive to a neat appearance.

One of the objects of the invention is to provide an essentially simple fastener composed of merely two parts wholly without rivets, screws or like fastenings, but hingedly attached other.

A further feature is in the provision of a fastener for collar ends which, while securely holding the said ends in adjusted position, does not mutilate or deform the collar in the degree, and which can be applied or removed in a particularly easy and rapid manner.

Another aim is to produce a collar fastener of an attractive, artistic appearance, well suited to its purpose.

These several advantageous objects are attained by the novel design and construction of parts hereinafter in the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a conventional type of soft collar showing the application of the device. 7

Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2 rotated Figure 4 is a top plan view of the fastener in an open position.

As clearly indicated in the drawings the device consists of only two parts, each of which may be easily stamped from suitable sheet metal, finished by plating or otherwise as may be preferred.

The under element, generally designated by the numeral 6, is made from thicker stock than the outer element 15 to obtain a greater rigidity.

The element (3 consists of a plate member 7 having end bar extensions 8 slightly bowed outwardly away from the neck of the wearer and terminating in barbs 9 on their outer convex edges, the extreme outer ends being smoothly rounded as shown.

. An elongated rectangular opening 11 is formed in the plate 7 below whichis a bar 12 stamped to present a substantially cylindrical cross section and acting as a hinge pin for the other member 15.

' The member 15 1S composed of a central plate portion 16 having a part 17 coiled about the bar or pin 12, constituting the other element of the hinge. l

The plate 16 is preferably notched at its side edges, thereafter bent at a right angle and formed with opposed, bowed arms 18 extending from the inturned element 19, which is adapted to make tight, snap contact with the extreme edge of the plate 7 and engage the ledge 10 when the clamp fastener is in operative position, thereby to frictionally retain the device closed.

It is to be understood that the arms 18 are resiliently opposed to the barbs 9 when applied and it will be apparent that the member 15 can be swung upon its hinge 1217 into open or closed position, and when in the latter the member 10 acts as a stop.

It will also be seen that the barbs 9 engage the fabric of the collar, at its under side, being pressed thereagainst by the spring arms 18, which however are level and smooth on their under sides so that the collar ends are held taut but not creased or otherwise dis figured.

Although the foregoing is descriptive of the preferred embodiment of the invention, it will be apparent that minor changes may be made in its construction, without the exercise of the claims hereto appended.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A collar fastener comprising a bowed bar having barbs on the ends of its convex edges, a hinge pin integral with said bar, a clamp member directly engaged by said hinge pin, and spring arms integral with said clamp member opposed to said barbs.

2. A collar fastener comprising two members respectively inner and outer, hingedly engaged to open and close upon themselves, said inner member being relatively rigid, barbs adjacent the ends of said inner member and level spring arms on said outer mem ber opposable to said barb 3. 4. A collar fastener Comprising a' pair of members one of Which is barbed to grip the entered ends of a collar, and -a hinge connectingsaid members whereby said members may be'swung axially relative to each other to holdor release the ends of said collar.

5. A collar, fastener comprising a pair-0f members oneof vvhich is barbed to grip the entered ends of 21 0 1 hinge connecting said members intermediate their length, and a v combined stop and catch onone of said mem bers operative with respect to the other member.
