The depending end-wall 17 of the housings or cartridges are provided with circumferential flanges 25 against which the rings 23 abut, while the rings 22 are in abutting engagement with the circumferential flanges 26 of the adjusting plate 18, the lower end of which plate is provided with a felt or other suitable backing 27, in engagement with the enlarged portion 15 of the eccentric shaft. The depending wall 17 of the housingis also provided with a felt or other packing engagement with the eccentric shaft, thus making the cartridges grease-tight.
The two bearings C and D are identical in construction and the construction just described makes them independently and separately adjustable to take up and compensate for wear andthey are provided with a con .nection 29, whereby grease or other lubricant can be delivered lnto the cartrldges.
The outboard bearings are also identical in, construction and are also provided with an adjusting means which is similar tothat just described in respect to-the inboard bearings C and D, so that aspecific description of them is not necessary. I 4
eferring now to the movable crushing jaws A and B, it will be seen that they are identical in construction and that their upper ends 30 are rounded both internally and er:- ternally and that the internal rounded portions form half-bearings 31, which are in engagement with the external faces ofthe cartridges or housings 16,-of the inboard bearings .O and D, and resiliently held insupported relation therewith, by reason of the arms or rods 32, the inner ends of which are in the form of eyes 33, having engagement with a common shaft 3 1, which shaft is-in turn supported from the inboard bearing housing 16, byrods 35, while the outer ends of the arms or rods 32, pass through suitable housings 36, provided in the movable crusher jaws and have theirouter ends terminating in a bolthead 37'backed by a washer or plate 38, which is adjustably positioned on the arm by a nut 39. A coiled spring 40, or its equivalent, is mounted in the housing 36 and has its one end in engagement with the housing bottom 41, while its upper end engages a floating plate or Washer 42, which is loosely mounted on thereduced portion 43 of the arm below or back of the adjusting nut 39.
By reason of the construction ust described, the half-bearing portions at the upper ends of the movable crusher jaws are resiliently held in supported relation upon the inboard bearings O and D.
The spaces between the extreme upper ends of the movable carrier jaws are closed by a detachable plate 44 and by reference to Fig.
2 of the drawings, it will be seen that by removing this plate access can be had to the upper ends of the lubricant delivering pipes 29 of the inboard bearings.
Attention is directed to the fact that the upper ends 30 of the pressure jaws A, B, have overlapping or interlocking connection upon the tops of the housings or cartridges so that these end of the pressure jaws contact over a complete one-half surface of the circular housings or cartridges l6.
Centrally disposed of the bottom of the frame, I have provided a channel iron 45 having channels in its opposite sides adjacent the lower ends 46 of the movable cru. her jaws. Wedges or plates 17 are suitably mounted in the channels of the channel iron and are provided with a plurality of notches or grooves 48 for adjustably and rotatablyreceiving the inner rounded ends49 of the toggles 50, the outer rounded ends 51 of which are in rotatable engagement with a suitable groove or depression 52 in the inner faces of the lower ends of the movable crusher jaws.
To hold the ends of the toggles in their respective seats, I have provided coiled springs 53,-one end of which are connected as at 54 to the lower ends of the movable crusher jaws, while their opposite ends are connected to eye-bolts 55, or the like, which by reason of nuts 56 are adj ustably connected to the channel iron 45.
'From the foregoing, it will be seen that I have provided a crusher having all the advantage previously enumerated. The movable crusher jaws are mounted in a new and novel manner upon inboard bearings of a novel con struction to permit their individual and separate adjustment, and I have further provided means for providing independent adjustment of the lower ends of the movable crusher jaws, and at the same time have kept the construction limited to one which is simple and permits of economical manufacture, yet at the same time produces a crusher which is strong and highly eflicient in operation.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1s:
1. 5. A crusher comprising a frame, a pair of stationary jaws andapair of movable crusher jaws positioned back to back for cooperation with saidcstationaryaws, an eccentric drive shaft for said mova le jaws, the upper ends of said movable jaws formed to provide half bearings formed with concaved faces for supporting connection with said drive shaft, and resilient means below said drive shaft interconnecting said 1novable crusher jaws for holding the upper ends of said jaws in supporting position upon said shaft.
6. In a crusher, the combination with a frame and a drive shaft, of a pair of stationary jaws and a pair of movable crusher jaws, an eccentric drive shaft supported upon out-board bearings mou'nted'upon said crusher frame, said drive shaft: intermediate its length provided with bearings supporting a housing fixed in respect to rotation, a stationary shaft below said drive shaft and supported b said housing, said movable crusher jaws positioned back to back and having concaved inner faces at their upper ends for engagement with said housing, resilient connection between said movable crusher jaws and said stationary shaft for holding the upper ends of the movable crusher jaws in supporting position upon said housing,.and means intermediate the lower ends of said movable crusher jaws for independent adjustment of said jaws for varying the openings between the movable crusher aws and the stationary jaws.
7. A crusher comprising a frame, a pair of stationary jaws and a pair of movable crusher jaws, an eccentric drive shaft transverse said frame and supported thereby, the upper ends of said movable crusher jaws having interlocking connection one with the other and having resilient supporting connection with the said-shaft, for the purpose described.
12. In a crusher, the combination with a frame and a drive shaft, of a pair of stationary jaws and a pair of movable crusher jaws, said crusher aws having their upper ends interlocked and supported upon a housing having therein a bearing through which said drive shaft passes and the ends of said shaft beyond said housings being supported upon bearings mounted upon said crusher frame,
13. A crusher comprising a frame, a pair of stationary jaws and a pair of movable crusher jaws, and an eccentric driveshaft transverse said frame, the upper ends of said movable crusher jaws shaped to form half bearings in a series of finger extensions having interlocking overlapping connection with one another, and said finger half bearing portions of said crusher jaws engaging said drive shaft and supporting the jaws in operative positions.
14. A crusher comprising a frame, a pair of crusher jaws, one of said jaws being movable, a drive shaft, said movable crusher jaw having a portion shaped to form a half bearing, and said bearing portion of said crusher jaw resiliently held in supporting connection with said shaft to be actuated thereby.
