Description

W. M. GRAY.
com/crown IMPLEMENTS. No. 184,775. Patented Nov .28,1876.
NITED STATES PATENT OFFIoE.
WILLIAM M. GRAY, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.-
IMPROVEMENT IN COMPOUND IMPLEMENTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 184,775, dated November 28, 1876; application filed May 12, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM M.'GRAY, of the city of Brooklyn, county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bed-Key Hammers,
' which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention is to combine in one instrument a hammer-head provided on one end with a hammer-face, on the other with .a bed-key socket, and in the center a wrench perforation placed transversely, a hammerhandle perforated trausversely by a series of graduated wrench slits, and a tack or nail claw, the instrument being cast solid in one piece, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing.
The instrumentis illustrated in detail in perspective, Fig. 1, and in sectional view, Fig.2.
The head H is furnished with the usual suitable for the hand, and may be used as wrenches.
The usual tack-hammers are deficient in driving-power on account of lightness, and both the head and the claw of such hammers are easily displaced by moderate use. The hammer-head constructed as herein described has'driving-power sufficient for most household purposes, owing to its weight and its permanent connection with the handle, and also great strength and durability. The handle E also gives the lever-power to the wrench or bed-key devices. The claw F is cast solid, of a piece with the handle E, and must be broken 011' in order to become displaced.
I am aware of the invention shown and claimed in Letters Patent N 0. 165,671, granted to Thomas Hagerty, July 20, 1875, and I hereby disclaim the same. I. v
I claim as my invention The Within-described tool, consisting of the handle E, with graduated notches forming wrenchesk k, and claw F, and of the head H, with bed-wrench O, wrench D, and hammer A, as shown and described.
