The invention relates to label aflixing apparatus.
The obje-ct of the invention is to provide a simple and effective apparatus for affixing labels 'to packages or containers that are mounted on an intermittently moving conveyor or carrier. The labels are carried in a stack 71, open at one side, and the top orv this stack has one or more projecting ledges 72 of usual construction to resist the tree movement of the topmost label but permit it to be releasedby the proper agency. ` and at its lower end said rod carries an arm 76 connected by a tension spring 77 with a bracket 7S iXed to the member 75 so thatV whenever permitted to do so, the plunger Vun-A der the action of the spring 77 will act to feed the labels upwardly. Control ofthis feeding action is effected by a clamping means engageable with and releasable from the rod 7 4Y and runder the Acontrol of the lever 57. As shown in Figs. 2 and 5 the rod 74 is mounted i between a iiXed block 79 secured to the mem ber' 75 and a Vmovable block 8O which are normally held in clamping engagement with therod 74 by tension springs 31 connected to opposite sides of said blocks. The movable block 80`is secured to ashatt 82 suitably journalledin bearings 83 on the member 7 5 and carrying a crank arm 84 having a pin and slot connection 85 with a link 36 con niected to thelever 47. Thus during a certain portion of the cycle of movement of the lever`47 the block 8O will be moved out oil engagement with the rod 74 and thus permit the plunger 73 to exert a feeding action on the labels.

The suction valve is then Opened by the cam 93 and with the table 3 at rest the cams 60 and 67 raise the standards 18 and 19 and said standards are then swung under the action of the cam 50, inwardly over the table as shown in full lines in Fig. 1 and then the arms 21 and 36 are lowered to a depositing position with reference to the article to be labeled, then presented in cavities 17 beneath said arms. A As the arm 21 lowers, the pins 23 contact with the article and deposit two spots of adhesive or paste thereon and as the arm 36 lowers, the head 37 brings the label over these spots ot glue, previously deposited on another article. andthe suction is released and as the standard 13 completes its downward stroke the stop 99 strikes the valve stem 98 and opens the compressed air valve and compressed air then flows into the head 37 and blows on the label or applies a blast ot' air thereto with sufiicient force to press the label on' the adhesive coated portion of the article to establish an attached relation therewith. vThereafter the arms 13 and 19 are again moved to elevated position and the cycle of operations isrepeated.

VvThat I claim as my invention is:
1. In a label applying mechanism, the coinbination with an intermittently moving conveyor for the articles to be labeled, of an adhesive applying arm, a label carrying arm,- means Jfor swinging said arms to a position to i @alzava respectively receive adhesive and a label and i to position to deposit adhesive and said label, means for also separately raising and lowering said arms, said label carrying arm having a head provided with a connection with a source of suction and with a connection with a source ot compressed air, and meansforv separately controlling said sources of connecticn.
2. In a label applying mechanism, the combin ation with an intermittently moving carrier for the articles to be labeled, a pair of standards mounted adjacent said table for swinging and vertical movement relative thereto, an adhesive applying arm carried by one of said standards, a source of adhesive supply, a label applying arm carried by the other of said standards, a holder for labels, means for simultaneously turning said standards to bring said adhesive applying arm into an operative position with said source oi' adhesive and to bring said label applying arm over said holder and foi-moving said standards to bring said arms into depositing positions over the table with reference to the articles to be labeled thereon; means for raising and lowering said arms from and to the positions above mentioned, and means associated with the label applying arm for assisting in carrying and depositing the label.
3. In a label applying mechanism, the combination with an intermittently movable carrier for the articles to be labeled, of a p air of standards mounted adjacent said tabley for swinging and vertical movement relative thereto, an adhesive applying armcarried v by one ol said standards, a source of adhesive supply, a label applying arm carried by the other of said standards, a holder for labels, means for simultaneously turning said standards to bring said arms into position to respectively receive adhesive and a label and i'or turning said standards to bring said arms into depositing positions over the table with reference to the articles to be labeled thereon, means for raising and lowering said arm from and to the positions above mentioned, said label carrying arm having a head provided with a connection with a source of snction and with a connection with a source of compressed air, valves for controlling said sources of connection, and means'on the standard of said label applying arm for operating the said valve to control the supply of compressed air to said head.

In a label applying mechanism, the combination with an intermittently movable carrier for the articles to be labeled, of a pair of standards mounted adjacent said table for swinging and vertical movement relative thereto, an adhesive applying arm carried by one of said standards, a source ofadhesive supply including a drum, means for rotating said drum, said arm providedwith pins engageable with said drum and adapted to transfer spots of adhesive therefrom to the article to be labeled, a label applying arm carried by the other of said standards, a holder for labels, means for simultaneously turning said standards to bring said pins into operative position with said drum and to bring said label applying arm over said holder and for moving said arms into depositing positions with reference to the articles to be labeled on said table, means for raising and lowering said arms Jfrom and to the positions above mentioned, and means associated with the label applying arm for assisting in carrying and depositing the label.
