The present invention relates tosmokers appliances and the primary object of the invention is to provide a match container for tainer of novel construction whereby the matches are so retained asto be easily dis A further object is to provide a device of this character which is of such simple construction as to permit economical manufacture thereof and thus readily associated with pocket size tins of tobacco without ob ectionably increasing the cost thereof.
A further object is to provide aimatch container which may be readily applied to tobacco tins as now in general use.
ent invention will be apparent from the foltion with the accompanying drawings formdrawings Figure 1 1s a verticalsection thru a tobacco tin or receptacle provided with the match portion-13 is a bendable tab 17 preferably container.
.Figures 2 and 3 are sections on the respective lines inFlgure 1.
Figure 4: is a fragmentary sectional view showing the cover in a closed position.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the device removed'from the receptacle.
Figure 6 is a perspective view showing the manner of removing a match without permitting loss of tobacco.
In the drawings and wherein similar ref erence characters designate corresponding parts thruout the several views, the letter A designates a receptacle and Bthe match container for dividing the receptacle into tobacco and match compartments; V
The receptacle A is in the form of the or.-
Other objects and advantages of the preslng apart of this specification and in which dinary pocket size tins. of smoking tobacco and comprises a body portion embodying the fiat side walls 5joined by the rounded ends 6. Closing the lower end of the body portion is a bottom wall 7 ,-whil eIthe upper endfot the body portion is closed by a hinged cover '8, Y 3
hinged to one of the side walls 5. The cover 8 is of usual construction and'has'thedownturned flange about the fiat body portion of thecovera .7 7
. Referring now to the container B, the same is intended to be arranged inthe receptacle A to provide a tobacco compartment 9 and a match compartment 10. v The container B is preferablymade from sheet metal similar to that of which the receptacle A is made and comprises an elongated channelshaped body portion 12 providing a web portion 13 and side flanges 14:. The web portion 13 is of a width equal to the spacing between the receptacle walls 5 and of a length slightly less than the receptacle A. When the container B is inserted into the receptacle A, with the flanges let'extending into one vof the rounded ends 6,.the web portion. 13 forms a partition wall defining the Ininorsemi-circular shaped compartment10 forreceiving the matches 15 and the major compartment 9 for receiving the tobacco package 16.
Projecting from the lower end of the web Bent inwardly at a right angle from the 7 upper end of the web portion 13 is atop flange 20 which isfspaced below the top of the receptacle when the container is in position. Bent V upwardly and outwardly at an angle from the inner edge of the top flange 20 is a sealing flange 21 which projects slightly past the top of the ,freceptacle -when the cover 8 is in "an open position. ,When :the
Provided at the upper end of each flange 14 is an arcu'ate shaped wing '22 and these wings are preferabl slightlylonger than the flanges l4 and co-act with the top flange to form retaining-means for a substantially semi-circular shaped retainer plate 24 serving as a closure for the upper .en'd of the match compartment 10. This retainer or closure plate 24 projects beyond the inner end of the top flange 20 and is upwardly bent at a slight angleflas shown. Provided at the central portion of the-rounded edge otthe closure plate 24 is a notch 25 forming a delivery opening permitting escape of i one match at time 'iro'mthe match compartment. a
' Arrangedmidway the ends ofthe container b'ody'portion 12 is a semi-circular shaped separator plate 26 which divides the match compartment into upper and lowern'i'atch'receiving sections having communication with each other "thin anotch '27 provided at the central portion of the roundededge of the separator plate. This notch 27 provides an 'opening thru which one match may pass at .a time. The plate 26 is'held in position receptacle. 7 v I When desiring toobtain a match "fromthe match compartment TO, the rec'eptacle'may be hel'd in an angular position as shown in Figurebwith the match compartment lowermost and the u'sers forefinger closing the tobacco compartment to prevent loss of looseitobac'co in the compartment. A slight shaking of the box will cause one match to slide thru the delivery opening form-edbyt'he notch 25.
flVhen the receptacle i'sin a match delivering position as in Figuret, the angularl'y bent i portion'of the closure .plateQ L servesto direct the 'ends' -of the matches to the delivery opening,'while the rounded end of the receptacle causes the matches toass'ume aparallel relation longitudinally of-the-match compartment. The sections of the matchgcomipartment are but slightly longer'than the length of-the matches to be used and the separator plate'26 prevents wedging and binding of matches in the other section. As the matches are withdrawn thru the delivery opening"25 from the upper section of the match comceptacle.
r ment an-d dispensed singly therefrom without likelihood of the matches becoming wedged in the rcompantment. will also be apparent that a novel arrangement has been provided whereby the container maybe associated with the conventional types of tobacco time {or irecepta-cles, and the match coinpartment sealed from'the tobacco compartment whentthe cover- 'i'sin'c'losed position.
Changes indetai l may be made to the form of invention herein s'hown-and deser ibed with- "out *departing from the spirit of-the nvention or the scope of the itoll'o-wingclaims.
