Description

Jan. 19, 1932. 4, A SEN 1 1,842,138
SCARF Filed April as. 1931 I 1/0/1411 Emil Adam- .1-N 1. Q mmg, I
Patented Jan. 19 1932 a UNITED STATES JOHAN EMIL AASEN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
scam? I .App1ication filed April 23, 1931. Serial No. 532,371.
This invention relates to a scarf for wear 20 into alignment with the edges 19of the about the neck, and has for an object to provide an improved form-fitting scarf.
A further object of this invention is to provide a scarf that will lie flat about the neck and will not tend to wrinkle or crease when in use.
Another object of this invention is to provide a neck scarf made of three separate lo-pieces properly joined, of which two pieces are identical in outline and may be cut from a strip of folded over material at the same time.
Yet a further object of this invention is to provide a form-fitting scarf which may in clude a piece of fur to fit about the neck.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, as will hereinafter become apparent, this invention comprises the constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter disclosed, claimed, and illustrat ed on the accompanying drawings. In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a plan view of this invention, with the neck section of the scarf folded over. Figure 2 is a plan view of this scarf, laid out in the same plane.
Figure 3 shows a form having a section of fur thereof, and
Figure 4 is a plan view of the separate pieces used in making the scarf.
There is shown at 10 the completed scarf constituting this invention. This scarf, as clearly shown in Figure 4, is made up of two end sections 13 and 14, cut as shown and middle semi-circular section 15. As will be apparent, each end section 13 and 14 is identical in outline except that one is the reverse of the other, and by folding over a piece of material from which this form-fitting scarf is to be made, both end pieces 13 and 14 may be cut at the same cutting. Each end piece consists of a straight portion 16, which is adapted to hang down over the front of the wearer, and
ends at the recessed cut 17, and the neck fitting portion is cut in substantially a quarter circle, as at 18.
To assemble this scarf, the portion 16 is doubled over, bringing the doubled over edge neck fitting portion 18. l j
The edges 21 of the portion 18 are stitched together as-at 22 and the middle section 15 is then laid over portion'lS and stitched thereto along-edge 19 asat 23 and along at 17 as at 24 as far as it may extend.
. In a form 25 shown in Figure 8, a piece of fur 124, out along the same lines'as middle section 15, is secured to section 15 by suitable 6o stitching. This fur trimmed form 25 is particularly intended for the use of women.
As will be obvious, a scarf made of three pieces and cut as shown will lie flat about the neck without any tendency to wrinkle and crease, as it fits the form of the wearer.
If desired, the middle section 15 may be cut as wide as or wider than portion 18, so that the outer edge 26 may coincide with or over reach the edge 27 of portion 18. 7%
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of this invention, what is claimed is:
1. A scarf comprising a substantially semicircular middle section and a substantially straight section at each end of the middle 5 section, said straight sections each being attached to the middle section at its ends, and a curved extension projecting from the attaching end of each straight section and underlying the middle section, the ends of said curved extensions being attached to each other.
2. A scarf comprising a substantially semicircular middle section and a substantiall straight section at each end of the middle section, said middle section being of fur, said straight sections each being attached to the middle section at its ends, and a curved extension projecting from the attaching end of each straight section and underlying the mid- 99 dle section, the ends of said curved extensions being attached to each other.
3. A scarf comprising three sections secured together, two of said sections comprising substantially straight sections folded over 011 themselves, a curved extension rojecting from one of said folded portions 0 each section, the ends of said curved extensions being stitched together, the third of said sections comprising a substantially semi-circular secl tion, said latter section being secured to the ends of each of the other folded portion and along the inside of its curve to the inside of the curves of said united curved extensions.
5 4. A scarf comprising three sections secured together, two of said sections comprising substantially straight sections folded over on themselves, a curved extension projecting from one of said folded portions of each section, the ends of said curved extensions being stitched together, the third of said sections comprising a substantially semi-circular section, said latter section being secured to the ends of each of the other folded portion and along the inside of its curve to the inside of the curves of said united curved extensions, said third section being adapted to have a section of fur secured thereto to fit flat about the neck of the wearer.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
J OHAN EMIL AASEN.
