My invention relates to alarms and relates more particularly to an electric alarm` adapted to be used on a cash drawer, desk, showcases,
or the like.
An obj ect of my invention is to provide an improved mechanical switch for closing anelectrical circuit to ring an alarm at a remote point. v Another object of my invention is to provide an alarm which maybe rendered in.`
operative by a. secret switc Another object of my invention is to v.pro-
vide analarm lfor a cash drawer or the like which may be readily attached without mutilating the article to which it is attached.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device of the class described which is easy and economical to construct.
the following description of the drawings which form a part of this specification, and wherein;
Fig. l is a fragmentary plan view of the mechanism as installed showing diagrammatically an electrical circuit therefor;
F ig. 2 is a fragmentary elevational view of certain parts of the device, the housing, therefor being shown in section; j
Referring nou7 to the drawings wherein like parts are designated by like `reference characters; at 1 I show a fragment of the side of a desk adjacent a drawer 2, the drawer being of the kind adapted to slide inward and outward to gain access thereto. Secured to the side of the drawer, by screws 5, is a rack bar 3, which is provided with a pair of teeth l that extend toward the switch mechanism.V
A switch mechanism, adapted to be operated by the rack, is secured to the body of the desk, and comprises a shallow metallic housing or box 6 provided with a lid 7 held the-reon by screws 8. l/Vithin the housing are dis-V posed a gear element ment 10. v j
The gear element 9 comprises a relatively 9 and a gear lever elen large toothed portion 11 which in this instance is shown as having four teeth, and a relativelyv small spur gear 12 which is axially aligned and secured to the larger portion by rivets.
`The spur gear 12 is in mesh with a gear which supports a lever 14... The lever 14 is adapted to oscllate a link 18 the lever being secured tothe gear by rivets. The link` is and 11 at each end andthe intermediate portion 42 is constructed of fibre or like nonfcon'- f ductive material.
Both of the gear elements are mounted upon short shafts. v15 and 16 which-are rotatably journalled in thewalls of the housing. Spac ing` washers 1.7"may be-applied on theshafts adjacent. the sides ofthe ears tofsp'ace the same from the housing. T e element 9 being so positioned in the housing adjacent the side that the enlarged toothed portion 11 extends beyond the sides of the housing through an y aperture therein. f Still other objects of my invention and the f invention itself will become apparent from link bei-ng connected to the blade19 off a n knife switch 2O.V The knife switch comprises ,an insulated b lock'3`1, secured to the box. by
The lever arm being rotated towardthe switch4 420, forces the switch bladev 19, by means of, the connecting link 18, rinto contact e with the Contact 21, 'closing the circuit.- The circuit comprises an annunciator 23, asource Voperated switch 25; all the elements being but two g preferably providedV with a pair of clevi'ses 4() 55 connected in series as shown. The leads 26 and 27 are connected to the contacts 21 and 22 of the switch 20.
Assuming that the manuel switch 25 is closed, operation of the drawer will cause the circuit to be closed, by the switch 20, operating the annunciator 23.
Vhen it is desired to open the drawer, without the operation ot the annunciator; the switch 25, which may be disposed in a concealed place, is opened; thus the operation of the switch 2O does not close the circuit and the annunciator will not operate.
In this particular embodiment of my invention, I have shown the rack as being attached to the side of the drawer and the switch bof; as being attached to the desk. It might be advisable however, to reverse the two and attach the rack to the desk and the switch to the body of the drawer; in either event the operation of the device would be the same.
The annunciator shown is the ordinary bell, but a light or other indicating means may be substituted therefor with like results.
The two gear elements are shown as being made in two parts riveted together, but it is also within the purview of my invention to make the elements in one piece.
Having thus described my invention in an embodiment thereof I am aware that numerous and extensive departures may be made therefrom, but without departing from the spirit of my invention.
I claim:
l. In an alarm device for an article of furniture having a reciprocable drawer, a movable switch element, a rotary element Jfor operating the same, a connection between the i rotary element and the switch element, means -for rotating the rotary element, said means comprising a rotary gear element and a longitudinally reciprocable rack element associated with a drawer of the article of furniture and movable into and out of meshed relation with the gear element.
2. In an alarm device for an article of furniture having a reciprocable drawer, a rack secured to the drawer, a rotary toothed element engageable and disengageable by the rack upon alternate movements of the drawer and rotatable thereby, a rotary switch operating element rotated by the rotary elee ment, a movable switch member and a connection between the second rotary element and the switch member.
3. In an alarm device for an article of furniture having a reciprocable drawer, a longitudinally movable rack secured to the drawer, a rotary toothed element engageable and f lisengageable by the rack and rotatable thereby, a rotary switch operated element rotated by the rotary element, a movable switch member and a connection between the second rotary element and the switch member,
whereby rotary movement of the second rotatable member in one direction may close the switch.
4. In an alarm device `for an article of furniture having a reciprocable drawer, a mov able switch element, a rotary element for operating the same, a connection between the rotary element and the switch element, means for rotating the rotary element, said means comprising a rotary gear element and gear rotating means associated with the drawer of the article of furniture and movable into and out of meshed relation with the gear element upon reciprocatory movement of the drawer.
In testimony whereof I hereunto atlix my signature.
ALBERT SHAROVSKY.
