SHAVING BRUSH Filed May El, 1930 INVENTOR 170/1 W lscw/vours.
ATTORN EY Patented 1.... 12,- 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Joint w. amour; or immune Bm'cn, oamronnm ggmvwe Imus; i a aratus me a. 51, mo. lerial No. 51,070.
This invention relates to a shaving brush, but may be used for other purposes if so desired} 1 Una of the objects of the invention is t 5 provide a brush'for containing shaving cream,
and which may be erated to force the cream into the bristles of t e brush so that the cream may he applied by the brush to the face for cl-raving, j a
(Other objects and advantages will appear hereinafter,
The invention is illustrat d in the ann x d drawings which forms a part of this specification and in which,
Fig. i is a longitudinal section of a brush embodying my invention.
E i 2 is a cross section of said brush taken on llne 22 of Fig. 1 showing the outlet valve.
Fig. 3 is a cross section otthe brush taken on line 3-dof Fig. i.
Fig. a is an elevation of the brush.
Fig. is an elevation of the brush cap for enclosing the bristles of the brush when the 95 brush is not in use,
Corresponding parts are designated by the same reference characters in all the figures.
My brush includes a brush head 1 com rising a mounting 2, provided with an out at 3 extending axially therethrough, and brush bristles 4 mounted in said mounting; a reservoir brush handle 5 formed of a pair of tube ular telescoping sections 7 and 8, the section 8 forming a reservoir 9 for containing shav- 35 ing cream or other semi-ii uid material; a plunger 10. mounted in sai reservoir; and lnterengaging'threads 11 and 12 on the handle sections 7 and 8 respectively for moving the plunger forwardly in said reservoir for ejecting the shaving cream from said reservoir. through said outlet 8 into the brush bristles 4.
The forward end of the handle section B is formed with a socket 13 in which the brush mounting 2 is securely fitted. The handle section 8, being of smaller diameter than the handle section 7, is screw-seated within said handle section 7 by means ofthe threads 11 and 12.. A sleeve is joined at its forward end to the forward end of the haniiiiii
face for shaving.
dle section 8 as at 14 and extends over said section and its external thread 11 and part- 1 over the inner end of the handle section 7, t e 1111181 end of the section 8 being open to receive the plunger 10.
The outer end of the handle section 7 is notch in the outer end portion of the Valve to be engaged b the thumb or finger nail of the user of the rush for drawing the valve outwardly to open 'When the brush is not the outlet 3. in use the bristles 4 of the brush may be enclosed within a cap 21 which fits over the forward end of the brush handle section 6 as illustrated in dotted lines in Fig. 3.
In order to fill the reservoir 8 with shaving cream, the handle section 7 is rotated to the left until its thread 12 disengages the thread 11 on the reservoir 8, whereupon said handle section, together with the plunger rod 16 and plunger 10,
are removed from the handle section 7 and the reservoir 8 reis actively. The reservoir being filled with siiaving cream through its rear open end, the handle section 7 and plunger 10 are introduced respectively into the rear ends of the handle section 6 and the reservoir 8, and
the handle section 7 is rotated forwardly until its thread 12 engages the thread 11 on the reservoir.
When desired to use the brush, the valve 17 is first drawn outwardly until the outlet 3 is uncovered; the handle section 7 is then rotated to the right until the plunger 10 is forced forwardly by the engagement of the threads 11 and 12 a suflicicnt distance within the reservoir 8 to force a desired amount of shaving cream out of the reservoir through outlet 3 into the bristles 4 of the brush. The
bristles of the brush are then moistened in water for applying the s having cream to the When the cream is injected into the bristles of the brush thevalve 17 is closed to prevent the cream and water from entering the reservoir through the outlet 3. The
5 valve is also closed while washing out the brush.
In this specification and the annexed drawings I disclose my invention in a form which I consider desirable, but I do not limit my invention to such form, because it may be embodied in other'forms, and I desire it to be understood that in and by the claim of this specification I intend to cover my invention in whatever form it may be embodied.
I claim as my invention:
A brush comprising a brush head and a reservoir handle provided with an outlet leading into the bristles of the brush head,
thehandle for the brush head being formed in two telescopic tubular sections, said brush head being mounted on one of said handle sections; a plunger on the other handle section fitting in said section on which said brush head is mounted, interengaging threads on said handle sections, and a sleeve mounted at one endon one of said handle sections and extending over one of said handle sections and partly over the other handle section and enclosing the external thread on one of said handle sections.
