v This invention relates to vending machines of the type adapted for manual operation upon the insertion of a coin.

The constantly increasing number of suchv J 5 mechanisms, for dispensing an endless variety of small objects without the assistance of a salesman, their convenience and availablity at all hours, and other advantageous features, is conclusive evidence of appreciation by the public.

However, most devices for such purposes are quite complicated in their construction, entailing expense and frequent failure in performing their function.

It is'therefore an object of the present invention to provide an unusually simple device that, unless breakage occurs or the goods become exhausted, will unfailingly function in the vending of the articles to be sold.

A further feature is in the provision of means, which upon the entry of a coin and depression of a lever, will liberate a single article from the goods magazine and present 7 it in an accessible position.

Another aim isto produce a neat appearing, compact mechanism having means to dispense a single article'from any one of a series of magazines, containing similar goods but of unlike brands, selectively, by operation of a single element common to all, the present construction being designed to dispense. cigarettes.

These objects are attained by the novel design, construction and combination of parts, hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming part hereof, and in which Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view of an embodiment of the-invention.

Figure 2 is a partial front elevational, partial sectional view of the same, the section being takenon line 2-2 of Figure 1.

A rectangular casing is'generally designated by the numeral 10, having an outwardly curved front wall 11 at its lower portlon and a panel 12 thereover held in a frame 13.

The bottom wall 16 of the casing has upturned front ledges 17 curved to suit the openings 15 and adjacently rearward of the ledges are perforations 18 acting as a drain for water, should it be driven in by storms through the openings 15.

Fixed in the casing 10 are the side walls 19 of the goods magazines, the same being flanged inwardly at their side edges, as at 20, presenting spaces'21 therebetween, these magazines being suited to contain a single vertical row of'cigarettes pressed down by weights 22 having squared ends 23 slidable in the spaces 21 which act as guides.

Fixed to the front ends of the weights 22 are forwardly extending supports 24 carrying signs 25 as Empty, the same showing through a transparent plate 12 in the panel 12" andindicating an exhausted condition of the magazine when the sign reaches a predetermined point.

Below and to one side of the magazines are curved guards 26 extending downwardly and terminating in straight elements 27 forming one of the-side edges of chutes 28 directed downwardly at their front ends to, extend to the ledges 17, these chutes receiving the goods X and directing them into an accessible position at the front of the machine, the other side walls 29 of the chutes extending upwardly and rearwardly, as best seen in Figure 2.
