Description

' Nov. 26, 1929. L. HORST 1,736,826
- COLORED FILM Filed March 19. 1928 G O p cy" o I o o r I.) I W I l @1 @122 ca e a ca 6 1 6. 3 I 0 (Eli cal El 9 a INVENTOR. I. floral ATTORNEYS.
Patented Nov. 26, 1929 PATENT OFFICE LUDWIG HORST, F BERLIN-WILMERSDORF, GERMANY COLORED FILM Application filed March 19, 1928, Serial No. 262,903, and in Germany March 18,1927.
My invention relates to a method of producing colored films.
In the production of three-color films the difficulty arises that the three partial pictures do not register accurately so that when the pictures are projected on the screen the pictures show colored edges. This drawback is traceable to the fact that in the manufacture of the film the customary oblong perforations are provided in the edges for feeding it forward, in which the gripper pins have a certain amount of play. During the repeated coating of the film strip with emulsion the strip itself is subject to variations in size and this in con'unction with the play of the pins in the per orations then leads to an inaccurate register of the partial pictures.
The object of my invention is to eliminate this drawback and to provide a method of producing a film which is free from the above recited objection In producing a three-color film according to my invention a positive film coated with an emulsion on both sides is first provided with circular perforations, the diameter of these'perforations being less than the height of the normal perforations. During the application of the partial'pi'ctures upon the two layers the film strip isfed forward by pairs of grippers the pins of which are of circular cross-section and pointed at the free ends. The pins fit accurately into the perforations, so that an accurate register of the partial pictures is ensured with certainty. The film prepared so far is then provided with the third layer of emulsion and then only the normal perforations eing then propelled by the customary gripper Ems.
T e single figure of the drawing shows a film A to which has been applied the usual coating. The small circular opening 1 around which the material 2 is to be removed produces in the finished film the oval opening 3.
Various modifications and changes may be made without departing from the spirit and the scope of the invention, and I desire, therefore, that only such limitations shall be placed thereon as are imposed by the prior art. 60 I claim as my invention:
are punched into it, the film The method of producing a three-color film, which consists in providing a positive film coated with emulsion on both sides with circular perforations of a smaller diameter than the height of the normal perforations, finishing the two-color picture, applying the third layer of emulsion, and finally punching out the normal perforations.
In testimony whereof I have afiixed my sig-,
nature.
LUDWIG HORST.
