Description
Nov; 19, 1929. 1* J. T. RAM$DEN 1,736,364 I h FLA-SK FOR MULTIPLE MOLDING Filed March 15, 1928 WIT/V566: F/6 3 I 4 (Jo/77? Zfi/mran Patented Nov. 19, 1929 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE JOHN T. RAMSDEN, 0F PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOIR, TO THE TAIBOR MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORA- TION OF PENNSYLVANIA FLASK FOR MULTIPLE MOLDING Application filed March 15, 1928.
The principal objects of the present invention are to provide metal flasks especially adapted for multiple molding machines in which the flasks are stacked and simultaneously poured in groups after which they are shaken out and removed, and to allow for expansion and contraction of the flasks without detriment.
The invention will be claimed at the end hereof but will be first described in connection with the accompanying drawing form ing part hereof and in which Figure 1 is a top or plan view of a flask embodying features of the invention.
Fig. 2 is an elevational view partly in central section illustrating a stack of such flasks, and
Fig. 3 is a detail view of one of the parts.
In the drawing the metal flask for multiple molding has parallel top and bottom faces. In fact these faces are machined. Extending around the flask are externally projecting ribs 1 and 2 and they are deeper or wider at the center portions of the ends and sides of the flask than they are at the corners of the flask. The top rib l is provided at the ends of the flask with upwardly projecting pins 3, shown as mounted in lugs a, forming as it were reinforcements of the rib 1. At the ends of the flask and on the under face of the rib 1 and on each side of the lug 4 are provided inwardly and upwardly extending beveled surfaces 5 shown as provided on feet 9. The bottom rib 2 is provided with bushings of which one, 6, is adapted to fit a pin like one of the pins 3, and of which the other, 7, is relatively elongated in the direction of the length of the flask to fit a pin 3 in such a way as to allow or afiord some range of motion in the direction of the length of the flask. These bushings are shown as provided through lugs or reinforcements 10 on the under side of the ribs 2.
In use and when the flasks are stacked, as shown in Fig, 2, the elongated bushing or opening 7 affords each flask suflicient movement in the direction of its length and in respect to the bushing 6 which snugly engages a pin 3 for accommodating for expansion and contraction due to temperature changes and Serial No. 261,767.
without detriment to the proper operation of the flasks in the molding operation. The beveled faces 5 receive the lifting fingers of a shake out bail which is a well known adjunct of a multiple molding machine. By the described construction there is provided astrong, firm, durable flask well adapted for the production of excellent results and accurate in multiple molding machines.
I claim:
1. A metal flask for multiple molding having parallel top and bottom faces and having around externally projecting ribs deeper at the cer.- s of the ends and. sides of the flask than at its corners, the top rib provided at the ends of the flask with upwardly projecting pins and on its under face with upwardly and inwardly beveled surfaces, and the bottom rib provided with bushings of which one is adapted to fit a pin like one of said pins and of which the other is relatively elongated in the direct-ion of the length of the flask to compensate for expansion by affording movement in respect to a pin like one of said pins.
2. A metal flask for multiple molding having parallel top and bottom faces and having around it externally projecting ribs provided at the ends of the flask with reinforcements or lugs, pins projecting upwardly from the lugs of the upper r1b, and bushings provided in the lugs of the lower rib and of which one is adapted to fit a pin like one of said pins and of which the other is relatively elongated in the direct-ion of the length of the flask.
3. .A metal flask for multiple molding having parallel top and bottom faces and having around it externally projecting ribs, pins projecting upwardly from the top rib and arranged centrally of the ends of the flasks, and bushings provided in the lower rib and arranged centrally of the ends of the flask and of which one is adapted to fit a pin like one of said pins and of which the other is relatively elongated in the direction of the length of" the flask.
JOHN T. RAMSDEN.
