INVENTOR ATTO R NEY w. o. CRITCHFIELD TISSUE HOLDER FOR SALES BOOKS Filed, March 24, 1928 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 'HHHHIHII I' Z7. 0'. c rpachfiem ATTORNEY Patented Oct. 29, 1929 r mu;
WALTER O. GRITCI-IFIELD, OF SHELBY, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO SHELBY SALFSIBOOK COMPANY, OF SHELBY, OHIO 1 TISSUE HOLDER Fon- SALES Books Application filed March 24,
This invention relates to a sales book and is especially intended to form a convenient holder for sheets of tissue forming original copies of sales transactions simultaneously 6 made with a carbon copy thereof for auditing purposes. The invention is especially intended to make more convenient for the salesman the management of the tissue copy, at the time of the sale. Tovthis end the invention consists of a clamp mounted in the sales book on a convenient support in which may be inserted a pad of auditors slips with a superposed sheet of double-faced carbon paper and along the side of the clampus a vertical support forming a holder for a tlssue book, the back cover of which is conveniently mounted between a fixed vertical guide and a pivoted spring arm, adapted to swing into a vertical plane to admit the back of the tissue book and then swung down in parallelism with the supporting strip to clamp it in place. Thus the pages of the detachable tissue are very conveniently supported adjacent to the carbon sheet and may be swung over into engagement with the block of auditors checks one page at a time to form an original copy of the sale.
My construction provides also a folding lid by which the tissue book cover may be snugly held when the book is not in use, so as to protect the pages from mutilation. The several features of novelty will be more fully hereinafter described and will be definitely indicated in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating the invention Figure 1 is a plan of a sales book cover embodying the invention.
Figure 2 is a median transverse section.
Figure 3 is a plan of the'sales book containing the tissue holder ready for recording a sale.
Figure 4 is an isometric view of a retainer for the carbon tissue book.
Figure 5 is a median vertical section.
Referring now in detail to the drawings I preferably provide an outside cover composed of three foldable parts, the structure of which will be clearly apparent from an inspection of Figures 2 and 5. 1 represents 1928. Serial N d. 2e4,453.
the outside cover, 2 the back'cover and [3 a foldable inside cover to form'a convenient clamping meansifor the back of the tissue book. I preferably form at the hinged section of the book cover, a thin portion flexibly adapted for opening and closing. A book of'thin tissue paper pages which form the original record of the sale as in dicated at 8, is-mounted on a stout pa er cover 7 the back of which 7? is adapte to pass over a clamp, hereinafter to be described, and lie beneath the folding back 3, in which position it will be snugly and smoothly held. The pad of auditors checks is superposed on the folding section 3 of the cover, as indicated at 4 in Figures 2 and 5 and ismaintained in fined relation by spring clamp 55 riveted to the top side of the outer section ofthe cover 3; this clamp having a spring pressed lid 5 with clamp jaws on its top and bottom'tra'nsverse edges, 'side and 'a thumb piece 6 of 'depressed metal to afford a convenient means of lifting the'spring lid to mount the block of auditors checks. At-right angles" to the spring clamp'of the auditors checks, along the longitudinal edge of thefold oflid 1 isa holder for the tissue book, the struoture 'of which will be clearly apparent from inspection of Fig. 4. This consists of'an angular strip of'sheet metal 10 provided with holes 0 by; which it may be riveted to the back as indicated at 9 in Figures 3 and 4 tothe vertical edge 1010 on which is riveted atone end asindic-ated at 11; a strip of spring sheet metal 12 having a longitudinal stiffening rib 13 and 85. carrying at'the free end a clamp button 14,, adapted to enter a slot 15 in the edge of the angle bar and form a retainer for the back of thetis sue book as will be clearlyapparent from a consideration of Fig. 2. .By unlocking thebutton 14 the strip 12 springs away from theslot 15 and the strip may be swung up at right angles topermit convenient admis-. sion' for the bottom cover of the tissue book and swung back to a horizontal position and The spring support for the auditors check .0.
is riveted to the top of the outer section 3, as to detachably connect the other ends of the a illustrated in Fig. 1, so that when the book jaws to clamp the tissue book between said is folded in operative position to effect a aws.
sales transaction a tissue sheet may be laid over the block of auditors checks as indicated i in Figures 2 and 3 in position for recording a sale. The. section; of. the cover carrying the clamp 5 1s provided on one edge with an angular strip of metal 18. which forms aconvenient grip" in handlingtlie book to attach and detach the tissue book. The tissue book will preferably have as many pagesas the pad of auditors reports and are preferably so bound in cover as to be: readily detachable one at a time, each auditors check to be of double-lengthsothatits bottom side maybe folded t0:0verlie a carbon sheet and a tissue pager may be applied over said carbon sheet in:;a manner similar in ai common form of salesmans check books-. The form of book as thus described forms an unusually convenient'means of preserving a record of sales transactions-for a supply house'with a mini? mumdanger of damage to the-tender. tissue or the original copy andpermits-great. expedition in: the transaction ofsales;
Havingfthus described my invention, What I claimis new and desire to secure by. Letters Patent is :e-= i '-1.- A tissue book holder for mani'folding books comprising a'pairof clamping aws-one of whiclris adapted'tobe ri gidl 'y secured tot-he backoft-hemani-fold-ing book.. the other jaw being termed ofresilient: material, means to conneetone of the ends of the jaws to perunit of pivotal movement of theresilient jaw at rightangles to the back of the manifolding book: and flexing said; resilient jaw in aplane paralleI with said back,'a-nd'1neansto: detaelrably connect the other ends of: the jaws.
