Description

Oct. 22, 1929. G. RUHMANN INCINERATOR Filed Sept. 6, 1928 lil Patented Oct. 22, 1929 t UNITED STATE GUSTAV E. RUHMANN, 0
r SCHULENBURG, TEXAS INCINERATOB Application filed September My ators and it contemplates the provision of an incinerator that is provided with a cap or cover that is ingeniously mounted on the body portion of the incinerator and is adapted to be tilted when occasion demands without entirely removing the cap or hood from the body portion.
ther objects of the invention will be fully understood from the following description and claims when the same are read in connection with the drawings accompanying an forming part of this specification in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the incinerator with the cap or hood in open position.
Figure 2 is a sectional in closed position.
Figure 3 is a top plan view taken in the plane indicated by the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all the views of the drawings.
My invention resides in the construction of hood and the manner in which it is attached to the body of an incinerator. -The incinerator comprises a body portion 1, the door 2, the handle 3, the grill 4 that rests on the brackets 5 and the hood 6, all of which elements are well known in the art and form no part of my invention.l
l make no claim to the handle 7 of the hood and my device is specifically confined to the construction necessary and the elements that view with the hood hinge and hold the hood 6 with respect to the body 1 of the incinerator. The said invention comprises the stop 8 that is bolted or otherwise secured to the underside of hood 6 and is curved inwardly with respect to the outer edge of the hood whereby it wil engage the incinerator when the hood is thrown to the open position shown in Figure 1. f
Depending from and secured to the hood are diverging arms 9 that terminate in the portion 12 which in turn is provided with the elongated slot 10. Arranged in the side wall of the incinerator are the headed members 11 that rest in and are engaged slot 10.
present invention pertains to incinerd cause the hood to assume l to the container and 6, 1928. Serial No. 304,293.
In the use of my device, if it is desired, to throw the hood into the open position asy show'n in Figure 1, it is merely necessary to grip the handle 7 and slightly lift out of contact with the upper rim of the incinerator 1. This may be done because of the slot 10 in the portion 12 of the diverging arms 9 which permits the arms to move upwardly and slide along the headed bolt 11. By merely moving the hood backward and then letting go of the handle 7, gravity will ythe position shown movement by gravity is limited by the stop or member 8 engaging the inner rim of the incinerator. By merely pulling the cap towards the front of the inl cinerator, until the rim of the incinerator and the rim of the cap engage each other and then letting go of the handle 7 gravity will again cause the cap to move down and snugly engage the upper rim of the incinerator.
The device is extremely simple in construction and comprises no elements that are liable to become inoperative after a short period of use and the liability of losing the cap, misplacing same or bending or breaking of the cap is eliminated.
1. The combination of a container, a hood adapted to normally rest on top of the container, headed bolts formed in the containerand extending externally thereof, arms o forked construction fast at one .end to the hood and terminating in a portion at the opposite end from the hood that is provided with an elongated slot adapted to confine the hood with respect to the container and in conjunction with the headed bolts limiting movement of the hood with respect comprising a single piece of material bent upon itself and secured to the inner side of the hood adjacent the peripheral edge thereof and further being bent inwardly toward the center of the hood.
2. A container having bolts formed therey in, a hood adapted to normally rest on top of the container, means for hinging the hood with respect to the container and comprising forked arms secured to the container and the lower portion having a slot that takes over in Figure 1 and the hood and means for y seated With respect to the container.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set hand.
