This invention relates to containers useful for packing and displaying merchandise, and one object, amongst others, is to provide a container, which is simple and'economical in construction, and which displays the contents thereof in the most attractive manner.

The display container forming the subject of this invention, is an improvement in the sectional container forming the subject of a co-pending application, Serial Number 187,788, filed April 30, 1927. In the previous case the container is made in several sections, which are packed together, but separately displayed. According to the present invention, the container is composed of several separate sections, which are so designed and constructed, and provided with detachable means whereby the several sections are united together to form a single displaying container.

Tn carrying out an embodiment of the present invention, the container is composed of two or more sections, and these sections preferably are constructed each from a single blank. When set up for display. purposes, the sections are located one above the other, and one behind the other, means being provided on one section engaging means on the other section for uniting the sections together. The lower section rests directly upon the counter or the like, and the other, or upper section is provided with a supportin base.

The invention will be more fully described hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a two section container with the sections joined together, and set up ready for service;

Figure 2 is a blank from which the upper or back section is composed, and which blank may be used for the lower or front section by elimination of certain parts of the blank, as will be hereinafter set forth, and

Referring to said drawings 1 is tlieupper section, and 2 is the lower section, the upper section being composed of the single piece blank A as shown in Figure 2. Said section has a receptacle 3 with an open front l, side walls 5, and back wall 6. The back wall 6 has Serial No. 189,773.

an extension 7, which is folded over on line 8 to provide a rigid and permanently erect dlsplay member. Thissection 1, also has a support or bolster 9, which is formed of an integral part of the blank A. In the cut-out front t a tongue ltlis left, and this tongue provides part of the means for uniting the sections together. The lower section 2 is similar to the section 1 with the exception that there is no supporting bolster 9 or tongue 10, and the portion of the extension 7 providing the display card is eliminated. The same blank will, therefore, answer for both sections only the members or the portion referred to are eliminated, and the upward extension of the blankl'i t is cut across on the line a, and folded on the line 6, whereas with the section 1, the extension is folded on the line a. The

blank for the lower section is also provided P In assembling the box for packing, the receptacle is formed, and the extension 7 is folded over inside of the receptacle, so that one end lies within the receptacle, thus forming a rigid display card, and at the same time a double back. The sections when packed are placed together so that the extension l of the upper section'will overlap the lower section. The bolster 9 is folded up against the back of the upper section, and when so put together the sections are placed into a sliding sleeve (not shown) so as to make a complete shipping package. The dealer when setting up the container for display purposes, removes the sections from the sleeve and effects the uniting of the two sections by inserting the tongue 10 of the upper section into slot 11 of the lower section. The bolster 9 is folded in the position with the sides 9'? turned inwardly so as to provide a firm supporting base.

and herein the bolster 9 is extended so that the end 9 may be inserted upwardly into the bottom of the section 2. The two sections will, by means of this double connection, be more firmly united together, and which connection may be useful at times depending upon the nature of the contents of the container.

As shown in the drawings and hereinbefore described, only two sections are employed, but it is obvious that an intermediate section may be employed, and in which case the additional section could be constructed the same as section 2 with the extension forming tongue 10 added thereto. If the contents are of considerable weight a supporting bolster can be provided for the intermediate section.

I claim- 1. A multiple unit packing container composed of a plurality of units, each unit constituting a separate container for merchandise, one of said units having a portion partly cut out in the front wall thereof to provide an opening, said cut out portion being arranged to engage the back wall of another unit whereby said units are joined together and means comprising an extension of the back wall of one of said units providing a support for said units. a

A packing and display container composed of a pair of-separate units, each unit providing a containing receptacle for merchandise, one of said units having a portion partly cut out from the front wall thereof and said portion being arranged to engage the back wall of the other unit whereby said units are held together.

3.
