This invention relates to advertising cabinets, and its general object is to provide a cabinet of the changeable exhibitor type, that is primarily designed for use for display purposes in front of motion picture theaters and the like for advertising the pictures and other features of the theater, as well as business establishments, firms and the like in the neighborhood of the theater.

A further object of the invention is to provide an advertising cabinet adapted for dis playing any subject matter including merchandise, in a manner whereby it will attract the casual observer.

Another object of the invention is to provide an advertising cabinet of the character set forth, that is illuminated, motor operated, is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and efiicient in operation and service.

This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or, corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of the advertising cabinet forming the subject matter of the present invention.

Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken longitudinally therethrough and showing parts in elevation.

Figure 3 is a sectional view taken approximately on line 33 of Figure 2, looking in the direction of the arrows.

Figure 4 is a fragmentary detail View illustrating the application of a carrier for the purpose of displaying merchandise and the like. I

Referring to the drawings in detail, the reference numeral 1 indicates the base of the cabinet which may be of any ornamental design and have casters secured thereto in any wellknown manner, whereby the cabinet can be moved from place to place in an easy and expeditious manner as will be apparent.

The body of the cabinet as shown is substantially square in cross section and includes front and rear walls indicate-d respectively by the reference numerals 2 and 3, and side walls indicated respectively by the reference nu- 5, merals 4 and 5. These walls have their confronting edges secured together in any well known manner and have their lower edges secured to the base accordingly. I

The upper portions of the front and rear walls 2 and 3 are flared outwardly as at 7, and these flared portions are cut-away to provide slots 8 which form sight openings covered by glass or other transparent material 9 which are received in frames 10 having guide flanges 11 for'that purpose as well as to accommodate pictures and the like 12 disposed to the rear of the glass. By this construction, it will be obvious that the pictures are arranged at an inclination as best shown in Figure 2 whereby they can be readily observed.

A top 13 has formed on its outer edges a depending flange 14 which is secured to the upper edges of the flared portions as well as the upper edges of the side walls 4 and 5, and said top is inclined upwardly toward its center so that it will shed water as will be apparent. The top is centrally provided with an I opening having an annular flange 15 surrounding the same and is adapted for the purpose of receiving a shaft 16 which extends vertically therethrough and has an upper threaded end threadedly receiving a collar 17 formed with and depending from the top of a housing 18 which includes vertical walls having sight openings formed therein for the purpose of displaying signs 19 which are detachably secured in guide flanges 20 formed in the walls of the housing and the walls are arranged in spaced relation withrespect to 0 the top and the annular flange 15 so that the housing may be rotated through the medium of the shaft 16 which has secured to its lower end a beveled gear 21 meshing with a like gear 22 fixed to the shaft of an electric motor 24. The shaft 16 is provided with a bearing 25 having arms 26 formed therewith and secured to the underside of the top 13, as best shown in Figure 2. From the above description and disclosure of the drawings, it will be obvious that I have provided an advertising cabinet of the changeable exhibitor type, that is adapted for displaying any subject matter including merchandise, in a manner whereby the subject matter will attract the attention of a casual observer, due to the constant movemcntthereof.

It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.

I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.

What I claim is:

1. An advertising cabinet of the character described comprising a base, front, rear and side walls secured to and rising from said base, slotted outwardly flared upper ends formed with said front and rear walls, a top secured to the upper edges of the flared upper ends and the upper ends of the side walls respectively, means for supporting advertising matter to be seen through the slots in the flared upper ends, a housing mounted for rotation above said top, advertising matter carried by said housing and means arranged in the cabinet for rotating said housmg.

2. An advertising cabinet of the character described comprising a base, front, rear and side walls secured to and rising from said base, said front and rear walls being provided with elongated sight openings extending from adjacent their upper edges and terminating adjacent the lower ends thereof,

stub shafts secured in the side walls and being arranged in pairs, stub shafts having their ends adjustably mounted in slots disposed in said side walls adjacent the bottom thereof, sprocket wheels secured to said stub shafts, chains trained about said sprocket wheels, means for rotating some of said sprocket wheels for moving the chains accordingly, display carrying means detachably associated with said chains and being arranged to show through the sight openings, and one of said side Walls being hinged whereby access may be had to the interior of said cabinet.

3. An advertising cabinet of the character described comprising a base, front, rear and side walls secured to and rising from said base, said front and rear walls being formed with sight openings, display means for merchandise and advertising matter mounted for movement and arranged to show through said sight openings, means for moving the display means, illuminating means in said cabinet, inclined reflectors disposed adjacent said illuminating means, and a reflecting means Vertically and centrally arranged in said cabinet and cooperating with the inclined reflectors for reflecting the rays of illumination toward the display means for illuminating merchandise and advertising matter carried thereby.
