Description
I Oct. 1, 1929.
J. F. MQVEIGH DISPLAY APPARATUS Filed Sept Patented Oct. 1, 1929 UNITED STATES JOSEPH F. MCVEIGH, OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS DISPLAY APPARATUS Application filed September 12, 1927. Serial No. 219,063.
This invention relates to display apparatus and more particularly to means for displaying commodities such as groceries, dairy products, meats and vegetables.
An object of the invention is to provide an apparatus of the character above mentioned which is adapted for use on traveling vehicles and in which a very large proportion of the space of the vehicle is employed to carry the in goods which are to be displayed and vended.
A further object of the invention is to provide an apparatus of the character referred to in which the articles to be vended are easily accessible either to purchasers or to the sales.
man.
A further object is to provide a display apparatus employing a body provided with revolving shelves for supporting the goods di played whereby a large quantity of goods may be carried and wherein the goods are accessible from the outside of the body.
A further object is to provide an apparatus of the character just referred to which is particularly adapted for use on motor vehicles to provide a traveling store, the arrangement of the revolving shelves permitting an operator to make sales of any of the articles carried without the necessity of entering the vehicle.
A furtherobject is to utilize the spaces between and outwardly of the centers of the revolving shelves for displaying merchandise. A further object is to provide the apparatus with a suitable refrigerator for the storage of perishable goods.
In the drawings, wherein I have shown a preferred embodiment of my invention:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the apparatus, Figure 2 is a partial plan View thereof, the top being removed,
- Figure 3 is a perspective view of one of the revoluble containers,
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on line 44 of Figure 3, and,
Figure 5 is a rear elevation of a portion of the device shown in Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings the numeral 10 designates generally the vehicle having a body portion 11 provided with a suitable top 11. The body 11 comprises a platform 12 on .the vehicle is utilized.
which are mounted a plurality of revoluble containers 13. These containers are mounted in rows adjacent the sides of the body. Each of the containers in a row is adjacent other containers ofthe row, and the rows ofcontain'ers are adjacent each other with only sufficient space between the rows to allow the containers to be revolved without interfering with each other. In the drawings I have shown these containers as of hexagonal shape which utilizes the space within the body of I the truck to good advantage, butany shape containers may be used without departing from the spirit of my invention. Mounted between the revoluble containers 13' are a plurality of non-revoluble containers 14. These containers are mounted along the sides of the body between the revoluble containers l3, and outwardly from the centers thereof, substantially closing the spaces between the revoluble containers. By the provision of these non-revoluble containers, practically all of the available space within the body of As shown more particularly in Figure 8, each of the revoluble containers comprises a central vertical shaft 15 from which radially extend a plurality of shelves 16. These shelves 16 are held in place by posts 17 mounted around the periphery of the shelves. In order to prevent the articles which are placed on the shelves of the containers from being displaced, I provide retaining means. 18 which, in the preferred form may be a wire mesh extending upwardly from the shelf sufficiently far to prevent the articles contained on the shelves from being displaced.
The non-revoluble containers 14 are preferably of a triangular shape as indicated in Figure 2 so that they utilize practically all-1 of the space between the revoluble containers. At the rear of the truck a refrigerator 19 is provided for containing dairy products. This refrigerator is provided with doors 20, 5 as shown in Figure 5 so that the contents thereof may be easily accessible from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle is provided witha step 20 extending around the vehicle in order to make it easy for the purchaser or salesman to reach the articles at the tops of the containers.
In the use of my invention it is only necessary for the salesman to stand near the vehicle and to revolve the containers 13 so as to display all of the goods which he has for sale. It is to be noted that the body of the vehicle is entirely open so that either the salesman or the customers need only to revolve the containers 13 and select whatever articles they may desire to purchase, and all of the goods will be readily accessible from the outside of the vehicle.
By the provision of the revolving containers 13, and the non-revoluble containers 14,
it will be seen that the maximum space within the body of the vehicle may be efficiently used and the articles to be vend'ed may be quickly selected by the purchasers.
Although I have described and shown the preferred form of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes may be made in the shape, size and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
I claim: y
A display apparatus comprising a body having open sides and providedwith a mobile base, a plurality of vertical revoluble containers arranged adjacent both sides of said body, and spaced from each other, and a JlUIiLllt of stationar vertical containers ar- I Y Y ranged in the spaces between said revoluble contalners adjacent the sides of the body so as not to interfere with the revolutions of said revoluble containers, whereby access may 1 be had to said revoluble containers and said stationary containers from outside the body.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
JOSEPH F. MoVEIGI-I.
