Our invention relates to fuse panels and particularly to'fuse blocks of the character used in enclosed distributing panels.
Oneobject of our invention is to provide a panel block containing a plurality of fuse receptacles which may be assembled as a unit within a panel housing to provide any desired number of branch line fuse circuits.
Another object of our` invention is to provide a fuse panel block whereina pair of fuse receptaclesassociated with a load circuit are arranged in a horizontal row and wherein the fuses of a neighborhood load circuit are similarly arranged in a row parallel with the first row.v l A Another object of our invention is to provide terminal facilities for the fuse recep-v tacles that may be readily assembled upon the blockin such manner that they are separated by the distance required bythe Bureau of Fire Underwriters.
' Another object of our invention is to provide a fuse block wherein the fuse receptacle terminals are disposed in notches in the end of the block, in such manner that no part of the terminals project from the block, thereby preventing the conductors in the wiring gutter from engaging live terminals of neighoring blocks. These and other objects that will be made apparent throughout the further description of our invention are attained by means of the panel block hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein;

housin T comprises a sheet metal box or casing 7 hat is provided with a cover plate or trim 8 having a centrally disposed rectangular opening 9- usually closed by means of a hinged door (not shown).
In the usual panel construction the fuse blocks 11 and end blocks 12 and 13 are mounted upon Z-bars 14 that are 'secured to the bottom or rear wall of the housing, the blocks being secured thereto by means of screws 15. The bus bars 16, 17 and 18 are disposed beneath the blocks, and the terminal ends 19 thereof are covered by the detachable block 12. The insulating block 13 serves to cover the neutral bus bar 21 to which the return conductors from each load circuit are connected.
Referring to Figs. 3 to 6, each fuse block 11 comprises an insulating block having a recess 22in the rear or underside thereof, which communicates with passages 23 in the end walls 24 of the block. The end walls project beyond the rear face of the block to provide a space 2 5 in which the bus bars 16, 17 vand 18 are disposed and supported in a manner that will be hereinafter described.
Four pairs, 26, 27, 2S and 29, of fuse receptacle sockets 31 are provided in the front face of the block for receiving pairs of load circuit fuse receptacles 32 and 33 which are of the 'usual screw shell type for receiving screw plug fuses. The sockets 31, for the receptacles 32 and 33 are provided with openings 34 and 35 respectivel which communi'- cate with the recess 22 in t 1e underside ofthe block and through which terminal strips 36 and 37 extend into the recess, the terminal 36 extendin through the passage 23 and terminating afi acent the end ofA the block'where it is provided with an attaching screw 38 whichextends int'oa groove 39 in the end of the block.

A fuse panel block comprising an in'- sulating block having a recess in its rear face communicating with a passage through its end wall and having two pairs of sockcts arranged longitudinally of the block in rows and in side by side relation, each socket being provided with an opening communicating with the said recess, and fuse receptacles within the sockets, each having a terminal extending through the said open ings and through the said passage in the end wall.

A fuse panel block comprising an insuv lating block having a recess in its rear face communicating with a passage through its end wall and having two pairs of sockets arranged longitudinallyY of the block in rows and in side by side relation, each socket being provided with an opening communicating with the said recess and fuse receptacles within the sockets, each having a terminal extending through the said openings and through the said passage in the en'd Wall, center terminals within the receptacles and insulated therefrom and extending through and surrounded by the material of the block and terminating exteriorlyI of the rear face of the block, the said first said terminals of the receptacles remote from the said end of the block being offset toward the axis of the block and extending between the center terminals of the receptacles nearest to the said end of the block.

A fuse panel block comprising an insulating block ,having end walls projecting from the rear face'of the block to constitute supporting legs therefor and having a recess in the rear face communicating with passages extending through the end Walls, the said block having two longitudinal rows of sockets having openings communicating with the said recess, receptacles in the sockets having terminals extending through the said openings and terminating in theA said passages in the end walls, center terminals within the receptacles insulated therefrom and extending through and surrounded by the material of the block and terminating exteriorly of the rear face of the block, the tirst said terminals of the innermost receptacles being offset and extending between the center terminals of the outermost receptacles, the said center terminalsbeing adapted to en` gage the feed conductors or bus bars disposed beneath the block.
9. A fuse panel block comprising aninsulating blockhaving a recess in. its rear face communicating with a passage through its end Wall and having two pairs of sockets arranged longitudinally of the block in rows in side-by-side relation, each socket being provided with an opening communicating with the said recess, and fuse receptacles within the sockets, each having a terminal extending through the said openings and through the said passage in the end wall, the said terminals of each pair being disposed in different planes.
