LINK BELT.

This invention appertains tothe manufacture of strips or belts formed from a plurality of different sections or links whereby small sections of material can be used to form an attractive appearing belt capable of use for different purposes, such as fan or other drive belts, garment supporters and the like.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a belt formed from a plurality of links which will be easy to assemble and which will Alie substantially flat and be exceptionally strong in use.

Another object of the invention is to provide such a belt, in which the sections or links thereof are so formed, as to interlock with one another and thereby preclude the accidental separation of the links even prior to the finishing of a complete belt.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a belt of the above character, which Will be eflicient in use, one that will be simple and easy to manufacture and one which can be placed upon the market at an extremely low cost and which will present an attractive and pleasing appearance.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation ofparts, as will be hereinafter more specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings; in which drawings:

Figure 1 is a plan view 0f a series of links connected together to form a fragment of the belt.

Figure 2 is a longitudinal section through the saine taken on the line 2-2 of Figure l and 7Figure 3 is a plan view of one of the links open.

The belt embodies a plurality of like links 8() each of which include an elliptical body 8l, a semi-Ovid shaped tab 82 and a connecting link 83. The body portions 81 of the links are provided with transversely extending equi-distantly spaced Aouter and inner slots 84; and 85, respectively, and an elongated opening 86 which connects the said slots 84 and 85 together. The slots 84 and'85 extend laterally in both directions beyond the opening 86.- The tab 82 is provided with a transversely extending slot 87. In the formation of the belt, onelink is used as the terminal link and the tab 82 is folded over the body 81 until the slot 87 registers with the inner slot 85. The next link is then taken and forced through the alined slots 87 and 85 by folding the tab 82 longitudinally after which the tab is straightened out andfolded on the neck 83 on the body 8l until its slots 87 registers with the outer slot 84 in the master link. A third link is now taken and its tab is inserted through the alined slots 87 and 85 of the second link and through the slot 84 of the master link. Other links are added in the same manner until the desired length of belt or chain is formed. The provision of the opening'86 serves as means for permitting the'ready assembling of the links and allows the tabsto readily be placed through the desired slots.

While I have described the principle of the invention 'together with the structurel which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the structure shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made therein when desired as are within the scope of the invention as claimed.

`What I claim as new is: Y

l. A belt comprising a terminal link consisting of an elliptical shaped body, a semiovid shaped tab having a constricted neck, the body being provided with a pair of spaced transversely extending slots and an elongated opening connecting the slots together, the tab being provided with a single transversely extending slot, the tab being folded at the neck over the body portion to aline the slot therein with the innermost slot of the body, a second similarly formed link arranged through the alined slots of the first link and folded over to aline the slot of its tab with the innermost slot of its body and to arrange its alined slots in alignment with the outermost slot of the terminal link for receiving a third and similarly formed link.

2.A A belt comprising links each having a body provided with inner vand outer slots, a tab underlying the body and having a slot registering with the linner slot, and a neck connecting the body Vand tab, the registering slots of one link registering with the outer slot of another andthe necks of the linksJ passing through the registering slots.

8. A belt comprising links each having a body provided with inner and outer slots and with an opening located between and communicating with the slots, a tab underlying the body and having a slot register-- ing with said inner slot, and a neck connecting the body and tab, the registering slots of one link registering with theouter slot of another and the necks ofthe links passing through the registering slots.

A belt comprising links each having a body provided With inner and outer slots and with an opening located between and communicating Wit-hfthe slots, the slots extending laterally in both directions beyond the opening, a tab underlying the body and having a slot registering with said inner slot, and a neck connecting the body and tab, the registering slots of one'link' registering With the outer slot of another and the necks of the links passing through the registering slots.
