This invention relates to a new and improved type of collar; button and has for i ts primary object the provision out a collar button in which the stem thereof is movable relative to the back or base so that when any lateral strain is placed upon the stem, the same will give, leaving the base portion tlat against the neck of the wearer.

With the present collar button, wherein the stem is rigid with the base, the base is frequently caused to dig or out into the neck when any pull is exerted upon the stem, thus causing extreme uncomtortableness. l tith the present button, this unpleasant t'eature is avoided in the manner above described, that is, by allowing the stem to swing relative to the base, leaving the base in position flat against the neck.

The invention will be best understood -from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, with the understanding, however, that the invention is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawings but may be changed or modilied so long as such changes or modiiicaticms mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention. as expressed in the appended claim.

the usual disk shape and is preferably formed of a single thickness oil thin material such as silver or aluminum. At the central portion oi the base, there is formed the upstanding stud 2 which is hollow as indi rated at 8 and has an opening 4.- through the top thereof communicating with the hollow interior.

'lhe stem out the button is indicated as a whole by the numeral 5. The shank portion G of the stem carries the head 7 upon one end and a ball 8 upon the other end. The ball 8 ot the stem is snugly positioned within the socket 3, the shank 6 extending through the opening 4r shown in Figure 2. Some play allowed between the edge of the opening 4 and the shank 6 of the stem, thus permitting tree movement of the stem upon its base.

The stud 2 projects into the button holes 9 of the collar band, which is shown in section and indicated by the numeral 10. It will be readily seen that when the present button is in use, any pull of the collar upon the stem 5 will cause the stem to swing upon the base 1 and thus relieve the strain without twisting the base and forcing the edge thereof into the neck of the wearer.

Having described my invention what I claim is A collar button of the character described, comprising a base having a flat top surface, a hollow stud formed centrally oi": the base upon the top face thereof, said stud being of the same width throughout its length and opening through the outer end thereof, a stem, and a ball formed upon one end of the stem and inclosed in said hollow stud with said stem extending through the open end of the stud, and acting to permit free movement of the stem uponthe base.
